New poll shows Hasner and Frankel in dead heat

During the first week of October, St Pete Polls conducted a survey of likely voters in eight Florida congressional districts, including, 22 and 18. The results were encouraging for the GOP.

Florida’s 22nd Congressional district has traditionally leaned Democratic its voters having chose the Democratic candidate in the last three presidential elections. Redistricting has left its constituency even more firmly Democratic. As of July 29, 2012 there were 190,866 Democrats to 151,129 Republicans, giving the Democrats an 11.6 percent advantage in registered voters.

Against this backdrop, Republican Adam Hasner entered the race against Democrat Lois Frankel. Although Frankel has the distinct advantage, the StPetePolls survey puts the race at a statistical dead heat, with Hasner at 44.6 percent to Frankel’s 44.3 percent, with 11.2 percent undecided. These numbers are well within the 4.9 point margin of error.

Congressional district 18 is an entirely new district. This race is between Republican incumbent Allen West and businessman Patric Murphy, and it looks even better for the GOP. The poll gives West 52.6 percent of likely voters, versus Murphy’s 40.6, well outside the 3.3 percent margin of error. Only 6.8 percent of voters in CD-18 still indicated that they were undecided at the time of the survey.
