Hollywood backing Obama in made-for-TV movie

SEAL raid on bin LadenWe’ve long known that the Hollywood crowd can be counted on as President Obama’s most ardent supporter. This time they may have slipped beyond the bounds of what is proper, if not ethical.

A made-for-TV movie entitled, “SEAL Team Six: The Raid on Osama bin Laden” is set to air on the National Geographic Channel on Nov. 4, just two days before the presidential election.

According to the New York Times, the film has been recut from its original version. It now includes news and documentary footage to strengthen the president’s role in the killing of bin Laden.

The movie is backed by Harvey Weinstein, a longtime Democratic contributor and a vigorous supporter of the president. According to the Times article, Weinstein purchased the screenplay rights for approximately $2.5 million at the Cannes festival.

Readers may recall that the Kathryn Bigelow film, “Zero Dark Thirty,” which also depicts the bin Laden raid, was also scheduled for release prior to the election. It was later rescheduled for a December premier following outcries that it amounted to little more than an elaborate campaign ad for the president.

Since last August, special operations personnel and intelligence officers have criticized the Obama administration for politicizing the raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Pakistan on May 2, 2011.
