Florida's Supreme Court To Decide Whether We Can Vote For Health Care Freedom

Mark down your calendars for this Wednesday, August 18th, at 9:00am, when the Florida Supreme Court will decide whether to allow Floridians to vote yes or no on Amendment 9, the Health Care Freedom Act.

The HCFA was passed by the Florida legislature and was scheduled to go on the ballot as a proposed amendment to the state constitution. A court, however, ruled that the ballot summary was misleading, taking it off the ballot. An appeal was made to the state Supreme Court to revisit the issue, which it will do on Wednesday.

FL-8 Pre-Primary Financial Reports

Candidate pre-primary financial reports are now available for the 8th Congressional District. The data is current as of August 4th, and provides a snapshot of candidate finances on that date.

This is an update to the data reported in my previous article.

The figures reflect heavy spending by each candidate as the primary election approaches. Except for Daniel Webster, who raised than $85,000 during the 35-day reporting period, fund-raising activity was modest.

It is also worth noting that responses to comparisons of these polls depends heavily on the outcome and the candidate making the . But,occasionally there are tid bits of information that may give us some insight.

One race that yielded some interesting results was the US Congressional District 8 contest. With 10 contenders including Alan Grayson and Daniel Webster the outcome was anything but predictable.

Does Campaign Funding Matter?

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Florida’s 8th Congressional District has raised money for the 2010 election than all but six other Congressional districts. Over $5,054,102 was raised by June 30th, according to campaign finance reports prepared for the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

Unfortunately for Republicans, over $3.5 million of that money was raised by the Democratic incumbent, Alan Grayson. To make matters worse, than $400,000 of the remainder belonged to two Republicans who are no longer in the race.

The Democrats are Eating Their Own

It is said that when an enemy is destroying itself, it is better to remain quiet and observe.

With November elections looming, the Democrat party is showing clear signs of unraveling. The ultra-liberal base, which calls itself “Progressive,” is not happy with the Obama Administration and it is starting to openly criticize the President.

Obama didn’t iver on the progressive wish list: single-payer health care, union card check, amnesty, government take-over of the energy industry, closing of Gitmo and withdrawal from Afghanistan and Iraq, etc…
