Vivek Ramaswamy drops common sense ‘NUKES’ in bid for Ohio governor

Vivek Ramaswamy’s exit from the Department of Government Accountability didn’t mark the end of his work making America great again.

Ramaswamy announced his 2026 run for governor in Ohio on Monday with an epic speech that has had several viral moments. In several clips being passed around on X, Ramaswamy vowed to end the “war on work” and bring back “psychiatric institutions.”

“We need to end the wave of violent crime in our cities by empowering police officers to do their jobs with the proper training needed to do it well, while respecting our Second Amendment right which shall not be infringed,” he said to cheers. “This also means we are going to bring back the psychiatric institutions that were wrongfully shuttered. This is a touchy subject, but I’m going to go there. I’m going to go there because it’s the right place to go. It’s important. Our jails can no longer be the first line of psychiatric care in this state. That is not compassion. That is cruelty to everyone involved. And we’re going to put an end to it.”

We closed the doors and now these people are on our streets. We have nursing homes, we have homes with special needs adults, we have to take care of the mentally ill. Leaving them on our streets is not humane

Prisons are not equipped to deal with the mentally ill. If a person is s danger to themselves and others due to mental illness they need specific care beyond basic imprisonment. Good for Vivek. This needs to be addressed.
