One suspect was shot dead by a California homeowner after multiple armed intruders allegedly entered the home with a grandmother and child inside.

Amid a rash of burglaries in the Granada Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, one homeowner’s response to threats of violence left a suspect dead and another potentially wounded Saturday morning. According to a release from the Los Angeles Police Department, Devonshire patrol officers arrived on scene around 5:00 a.m. after reports of shots fired within a residence.
“When the officers arrived, they met with the homeowner (victim) who stated he was inside his residence when three unknown males broke into his house. The victim described the males as all wearing dark clothing, hoodies and masks,” the LAPD release detailed.
“In fear for his life,” it continued, “the victim retrieved a handgun and fired multiple rounds at the suspects, striking one of them. The victim then chased the remaining two suspects out of the house. The suspects, who had arrived in a black BMW sedan, fled the scene without their vehicle.”

The abandoned suspect was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics and the Los Angeles County Coroner detailed two gunshot wounds of the man in possession of the victim’s property. The LAPD noted, “It is believed that an additional suspect was injured during the incident due to a trail of blood located during the investigation.”
Speaking with KTLA, resident Pat Walsh remarked, “We’ve been having burglaries every day in this neighborhood. So I’m not surprised at all. It’s been a real problem. Residents here are fed up.”
While this incident happened in the early morning hours, the outlet made note of a series of “dinnertime burglaries” that had been occurring in recent months when it was believed residents were away from their homes.
Days earlier a man and his father were said to have returned home after Christmas shopping only to discover armed suspects were making off with belongings. He told KTLA that he had chased their getaway vehicle down and attempted to ram it multiple times.
In a separate incident weeks earlier, multiple men could be seen on surveillance footage outside a Granada Hills home in attire that matched the general description from Saturday’s burglary. They were chased off by the homeowner who had grabbed his firearm to confront them.
“The suspects messed with the wrong homeowner,” a neighbor said to KTLA of the most recent incident, wishing to remain anonymous. “So hopefully this will stop them. It makes me feel good that people are able to protect their homes and stop these guys.”
Meanwhile, a man suspected of killing three homeless people in Los Angeles over a span of four days had been arrested Thursday and charged with murder and robbery charges over the death of 42-year-old victim Nicholas Simbolon, whom he was alleged to have followed home from an electric vehicle charging station before fatally shooting the decedent in his own garage.
