McCarthy says House GOP to subpoena Hunter Biden at the ‘appropriate time’

Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy said that Republicans will subpoena Hunter Biden when the time is right as lawmakers get serious about gathering information on the shady dealings of the Biden family.

The embattled GOP leader, who could soon face an official motion to vacate, appeared on Fox News where he discussed a wide range of topics with “Sunday Morning Futures” host Maria Bartiromo including the just-announced impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden, telling her that the presidential son will be brought in at the “appropriate” time without giving specifics on when that might be.

“Will you subpoena Hunter Biden?” Bartiromo asked, pointing out that Democrats grilled former President Donald J. Trump’s son Don Trump Jr. for twenty hours. “They didn’t have any evidence and yet they brought him in, they questioned him, how come you haven’t brought in Hunter Biden?”

“Well, the first thing is I don’t subpoena anybody….I let committees do their work,” McCarthy answered, passing the buck to his fellow House Republicans. “But think about this, Maria. You wouldn’t know any of this if we weren’t in charge.”

“The one thing the American public has to understand is there’s a strategy behind everything,” he continued. “We only follow facts. Hunter Biden will get subpoenaed, but when’s the appropriate time? Do you do it because television wants it? Or do you do it around the facts and the timing?”

“I think we should have the bank statements to actually know where did the money go so you would know the questions to ask Hunter Biden,” McCarthy added. “To just to subpoena Hunter Biden because you want to fundraise or you want to do something, that’s not how you run it effectively.”

“Don’t you have emails that say Hunter Biden was complaining that he was paying all the family bills? Bartiromo asked.

“That came from the laptop but we also have 5,400 emails that Joe Biden used as vice president, a false name that we have not been able to get yet,” the Speaker said, referring to information obtained from the National Archives through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) by a watchdog group that Biden used a variety of pseudonyms in communications when he was vice president.

“Wouldn’t it be smarter in an investigation that you were able to get all of those emails?” McCarthy said. “Cause what that show… we saw one where it was sent to Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, about a phone call with the President of Ukraine. Wouldn’t you want to know all that information so you can ask all the right questions?”

“So I think let them do their job,” he said of the GOP investigators. “They’re doing a very good job and let them follow it and take it at the right time.”

Responding to Bartiromo’s question if any other members of the Biden clan may also be subpoenaed, the speaker said, “It looks to me like nine Biden family members got money. I want to see bank statements, I think they’d have to come before us to answer the questions.”

“Remember what impeachment inquiry is, it empowers Congress in a legal ability to get the information we need,” he added. “That’s gonna be bank statements, that’s gonna be credit card statements, that’s gonna be family members coming in and answering the questions so the American public can know.”

Whether McCarthy’s vague answer on when the key witness will be brought in is enough to satisfy conservative hardliners who have suggested that he’s slow-walking the process remains to be seen but the heat under the speaker’s seat continues to be dialed up by Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida who has emerged as the California Republican’s most vocal critic.
