A jovial Gary Busey was caught on camera after an alleged hit-and-run, only to stop and flee again: “I’m private.”
Video of the Aug. 30 incident along the Pacific Coast Highway was obtained by TMZ and began with a vehicular pursuit of the 79-year-old actor. The brief clip was said to have taken place after Busey had pulled out of the parking lot of a Malibu shopping center, striking the victim’s rear bumper, and continuing down that road as though nothing happened.
“Sir, you hit my car, I need your information,” the aggrieved driver could be heard shouting as she pulled alongside the Volvo Busey was driving while she herself appeared to be navigating in oncoming traffic.
The video then jumped ahead to the woman standing with the elderly celebrity in a parking lot after an indefinite amount of time. The actor appeared dismissive of the victim’s concerns and suggested to her by way of parting, “It’ll be wiped out.”
Busey could then be seen proceeding to get back into the Volvo as the woman griped and evidenced visible damage to the front of his vehicle, “It doesn’t matter. That’s not how this works. You hit my car, you have scuffs all over your car.”
Efforts to obtain the aged actor’s personal information were thoroughly disregarded as he merely stated “Progressive Insurance” as though that would be enough to resolve the situation.
After she went on to demand, “I want the number. I want the information,” Busey started up the car and insisted, “I’m private,” as The Beach Boys “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” began to play from his radio.
As the driver watched the actor flee the scene yet again, she called out to him, “Sir, you hit my car. Sir, you don’t get to just leave hitting someone,” before, seemingly resigned to futility, she added, “Dude, what the f*ck!?”
According to CBS News, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department had opened an investigation into the alleged hit-and-run, which the Los Angeles Times had denoted was not the first such incident for the actor.
Previously, in 2015, he was alleged to have backed into another vehicle while driving in a Malibu parking lot.
Last year, the actor was besotted with troubles of an entirely different sort when he had been alleged to have groped women at an August 2022 horror movie convention before appearing in public later that month with his pants down while sitting on a public bench.
“Gary often sits on the bench in front of his home to meditate and look at the ocean,” a spokesperson had told Page Six at the time. “Our only guess is that perhaps at his age he realized he couldn’t get to the bathroom in time which explains what happened in the video of him on the bench.”

As to the “Monster Mania” convention, Busey denied allegations that had led to charges of “criminal sexual contact” and “criminal attempt/criminal sexual contact.”
In 1988, Busey had been in a motorcycle accident that a 2019 Hollywood Reporter profile said left him with “severe damage to the frontal lobe of his brain.”
