Trump trashes DeSantis while governor manages Hurricane Idalia: ‘What a shame for Florida!’

Not even a hurricane can stop former President Donald Trump from attacking his nemesis, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who put campaigning on hold to concentrate on responding to the latest natural disaster to hit the Sunshine State.

“So now it is learned that Governor Ron DeSanctimonious unnecessarily approved a 20% hike in Florida Electricity Rates, the largest in history (by far!), after taking a 9.5 Million Dollar Campaign Contribution from ‘money machine’ Florida Power and Light, and subsidiaries,” Trump stated in a Thursday morning Truth Social post.

“Next up to check out is the Insurance Industry, where DeSanctus gave up the store,” Trump continued. “His campaign and poll numbers have ‘CRASHED’ to a point where it doesn’t much matter anymore, but what a shame for Florida!”

Trump’s silence on Hurricane Idalia raised more than a few eyebrows as the storm approached.

“While DeSantis is busy prepping his state for a massive hurricane, Trump has attacked him in four separate videos tonight,” stated Townhall contributor John Hasson on Tuesday. “Oh and Trump hasn’t posted about the hurricane at all. Unreal.”

On Wednesday, a reporter asked Gov. DeSantis to comment on Trump’s lack of comments about Idalia.

“Not my concern,” DeSantis shot back. “My concern is protecting the people of Florida, being ready to go.”

The DeSantis War Room account on X called attempts by the media to turn a natural disaster into “clickbait” headlines “gross” in a post that featured President Biden’s remarks on Wednesday about the governor’s response to the storm.

Asked by a reporter if politics played any part in his conversation with DeSantis who is, obviously, running to prevent Biden from staying at the White House for a second term, Biden was full of praise for his Republican opponent.

“I know this sounds strange, especially how the nature of politics today,” Biden replied. “But, you know, I was down there when the last major storm (hit). I spent a lot of time with him walking from community to community, making sure he had what he needed to get it done.”

“I think he trusts my judgment and my desire to help,” the president said. “And I trust him to be able to suggest this is not about politics, is about taking care of the people of this state.”

DeSantis, too, appeared to appreciate the pause in the political games.

“We have to deal with supporting the needs of the people who are in harm’s way or have difficulties,” he told reporters. “That has got to triumph over any time of short-term political calculation or any type of positioning.”

“This is the real deal,” DeSantis said. “You have people’s lives that have been at risk.”
