Unhinged United Airlines pilot charged for axe rampage: ‘He just hit his breaking point’

Kenneth Henderson Jones has officially been charged in an August 2 incident where he apparently savaged a parking arm at the Denver International Airport.

It’s safe to say that pretty much everyone has had a job that made them think, at one point or another, “I’m going to end up on tonight’s news, aren’t I?” However very few people actually go through with it, let alone cause an estimated $700 worth of damage.

Video obtained by CBS News Colorado shows the entire bizarre situation unfold, including the suspect absolutely wailing on the parking arm with an axe. A scuffle breaks out when an airport employee sees what’s going on and intervenes. It took the introduction of a second employee for the man to finally surrender the axe.

In a statement to police, the pilot allegedly stated: “He just hit his breaking point.”

Jones has been charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief and will be arraigned Sept. 25. Corporate Communications Manager for United Airlines Russel Carlton issued a brief response to the incident, saying “He was removed from the schedule and is on leave while United conducts an internal investigation.” No other details were offered.
