Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell wasn’t feeling the love from his own constituents who loudly booed and chanted “RETIRE” and “DITCH MITCH” as he spoke at a local event over the weekend.
On Saturday, the Kentucky Republican was speaking at the 143rd annual Fancy Farm picnic, a summertime event that has been a staple in the Bluegrass State since 1881, and at times he was completely drowned out by the booing and jeering with the humiliating experience caught on video.

Despite the unfavorable reaction from the crowd, the 81-year-old career politician soldiered on.
“This is my 28th Fancy Farm and I want to assure you it’s not my last,” the 81-year-old politician said. “The people of this state have chosen me seven times to do this job, and I want you to know how grateful I am.”
The annual event is held in Fancy Farm, a rural town in the state’s southwest corner, and is sponsored by St. Jerome, a local Catholic church.
“So, we know that the political speaking attracts folks from all over the state of Kentucky to the Picnic but it’s the 19,000 pounds of BBQ that makes our picnic special. We once held the Guinness Book of World Records for the Largest One Day Picnic and BBQ. You won’t find any better BBQ pork and mutton anywhere,” the church states on its website.

McConnell has been the target of frequent criticism from former President Donald J. Trump who posted a clip of the booing to his Truth Social platform.
“I AGREE!” Trump wrote. “BOOOOO—RETIRE, RETIRE, RETIRE—BOOOOO!!!”
The 2024 Republican frontrunner also laid into the minority leader during his own Saturday speech at the Silver Elephant Gala in Columbia, South Carolina where he said that McConnell isn’t doing enough to push back against the Biden regime’s legal onslaught against him, also suggesting that the opposition could have compromising information on the minority leader.
Trump: What they’re doing with this election interference and the Senate needs to step up. The House is doing a lot of things… They have something on Mitch McConnell. There’s no way he’s doing this. They got something on Mitch McConnell pic.twitter.com/3zEISyKGa7

“These guys, what they’re doing with this election interference, and the Senate has to step up and do something. The House is doing a lot of things,” Trump told the cheering crowd. “But the Senate under perhaps the worst leader in the history of our country running the Senate, Mitch McConnell, has to step up and do something.”
“I’m telling you, Lindsey, they have something on Mitch McConnell. There’s no way that he’s doing this. They’ve got something on Mitch McConnell,” Trump said, gesturing to McConnell’s colleague, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) who was in attendance.
The calls for McConnell to retire come in a year when the octogenarian lawmaker has been beset by health troubles common for someone of advanced age.
He missed an extended amount of time earlier in the year when he was hospitalized with injuries sustained from falling down at a private dinner at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Washington, D.C.
There was also a scary incident last month when he completely froze up while standing at the podium and speaking to reporters, having to be led away by his fellow senators. Although he quickly recovered, it raised more questions about his fitness for the job.

“I’m against older candidates, the current president, Mitch McConnell,” one young voter at the event told CNN. “I think that they’ve run their course in politics, I think they’d be good for backing people now. But I think politics now is more of a young man’s game.”
