‘All the King’s horses and all the King’s men couldn’t put Biden back together again’

President Joe Biden and Britain’s King Charles met Monday at Windsor Castle for the first time since the British monarch ascended to the throne, a visit that included all the pomp and circumstance one might expect for such an occasion.

There was an occasion when King Charles, who is no spring chicken at the age of 74, appeared to be forced into the role of minder for the 80-year-old American president, which occurred as they reviewed an honorary guard formed by the Prince of Wales Company of the Welsh Guards.

As the two leaders made the customary pass before the guard, Biden seemed to become fascinated by the Guard of Honor escorting them when the man re-positioned himself after they reached the end of the line. The Guard of Honor was carrying a sword and as protocol dictates made sharp motions with the instrument to punctuate certain movements. With steel flying, this is when Biden opted to get a closer gander, clearly impeding the required ceremonial movements.

It was at this moment that King Charles tried to gently move Biden along by motioning with his arms. While Biden seemed to initially take the cue he unexpectedly turned back to the Guard of Honor to get another look, appearing to step toward the man. With a clear sense of urgency, the king quickly shuffled back toward Biden giving him some verbal instruction to move him along, appearing to place his hand on Biden’s back to steer him on his way.

Once the feeble American leader had cleared out of his way, the Guard of Honor was seen completing the ceremonial actions involving his sword.
