Tens of thousands of supporters turned out to see former President Donald Trump in Pickens, South Carolina on Saturday, this being in a county Trump carried in 2020 by nearly 75 percent of the vote.
The local newspaper reported that supporters traveled from as far away as Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Indiana and Florida to attend Trump’s rally in a town of 3,400 residents. FoxNews put the attendance at 50,000, citing Pickens police chief Randal Beach.
Team Trump was quick to share photos of the large crowd:

Trump went even further, claiming on Truth Social that attendance was much higher: “Over 75,000 people came to our incredible Rally yesterday in South Carolina, despite an almost 100 degree temperature. It was amazing, THE PEOPLE WERE GREAT. Thank you Pickens!!!”
“There’s nowhere else I’d rather be to kick off the Fourth of July weekend than right here on Main Street, with thousands of hardworking South Carolina patriots who believe in God, family and country,” Trump said at Saturday’s rally.
A Secret Service agent later clarified that approximately 15,000 were in attendance, according to Twitter’s Community Notes.
Polling has suggested that Trump may have no trouble prevailing in the Republican primary, but whether he can pursue independents and disaffected Democrats is another matter. Recent polling has Trump trailing President Biden, while popular Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis tops the 80-year-old president.
The crowd in Pickens wasn’t as thrilled about one of their own, effectively booing Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) off the stage when he tried to warm them up for Trump.
“Just calm down for a second,” Graham beseeched the crowd, before adding later, “Let me tell you how you win an election, folks. You get people together that don’t agree all of the time to agree on the most important things.”
Here are a few other social media posts documenting the crowd, as seen on Twitter:

Quick story time. At Pickens, SC rally. Hotter than the pits of hell. Packed. Get nauseated. Try to get to shade through the packed crowd. Tell them to let me through so I won’t puke on them. They tried their best. I get to fence and feel myself going down. I hear people but… pic.twitter.com/eeWw68jaM2
