Gloating Romney basks in the afterglow of Trump’s indictment, issues statement oozing with sanctimony

Democrats and their fellow leftists spiked the ball after Special Counsel Jack Smith served up the indictment of former President Donald J. Trump that they have been waiting years for, and joining them in their basking in the glory of the moment were a number of Trump-hating Republicans, including Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) who has long nurtured a strange obsessive grudge against the 2024 GOP frontrunner.

The failed presidential candidate and former governor of ultra-liberal Massachusetts who teamed up with his pals from across the aisle for both failed impeachments of Trump reveled in Smith and Attorney General Merrick Garland’s unprecedented move that firmly established that the U.S. is now just another despotic country like Russia, Iran or China where the political adversaries of the ruling regime are thrown into prison or worse.

In a Friday statement oozing with his usual sanctimony, Romney said, “Like all Americans, Mr. Trump is entitled to the presumption of innocence. The government has the burden of proving its charges beyond a reasonable doubt and securing a unanimous verdict by a South Florida jury.”

“By all appearances, the Justice Department and special counsel have exercised due care, affording Mr. Trump the time and opportunity to avoid charges that would not generally have been afforded to others,” he added, bestowing legitimacy upon Garland and Smith’s banana republic tactics.

“Mr. Trump brought these charges upon himself by not only taking classified documents, but by refusing to simply return them when given numerous opportunities to do so,” Romney continued.

“These allegations are serious and if proven, would be consistent with his other actions offensive to the national interest, such as withholding defensive weapons from Ukraine for political reasons and failing to defend the Capitol from violent attack and insurrection,” he concluded, parroting Democrat talking points and using the so-called “insurrection” as justification for taking a flamethrower to traditional norms and longstanding principles, as well as tossing America’s moral standing into a dumpster.

Romney last slithered out to similarly gloat last month after a New York City jury ruled in favor of columnist E. Jean Carroll in her rape and defamation suit against the former president.

“I hope the American people, the jury of the American people, reach the same conclusion as the jury of his peers, which is that Donald Trump should not be our nominee and he certainly shouldn’t be president of the United States,” Romney said, according to The Hill. “We have other people who are highly qualified that could lead our party to victory, and someone who’s been found to have committed sexual assault should not be the face of the Republican Party.”

Ironically, Romney blew his own chance to be the “face of the Republican Party” when he gagged away a winnable election against Barack Obama in 2012, fumbling a golden opportunity to be a hero by sparing the nation from a ruinous second term during which Obama did the majority of his damage and laid the groundwork for the later abuses of the Biden regime and its weaponized Justice Department.
