DeSantis responds to indictment of his opponent: ‘I think there needs to be one standard of justice in this country’

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis reacted to the unprecedented abuse of power brought to bear by the Biden regime against his top GOP rival, former President Donald J. Trump, who was indicted by Special Counsel Jack Smith this week, a fate that any Republican who threatens the Democratic Party’s hold on power could also face now that a precedent has been established.

Speaking at the North Carolina Republican Convention in Greensboro on Friday, DeSantis blasted the weaponization of the nation’s federal law enforcement apparatus for partisan political purposes and the two-tiered justice system that now exists in America, one for Democrats and protected leftists and another fanged version that has been unleashed on conservatives, most notably, the 2024 GOP frontrunner.

“America’s Founding Fathers did not design a Constitution with four branches of government. They designed three: Legislative, Executive, Judicial,” DeSantis told the crowd at the Koury Convention Center. “They did not design a fourth branch of government, an administrative state that is not accountable to the American people and that abuses its power. That’s not in the Constitution.”

“And what happens is, when there’s no constitutional accountability, our Founding Fathers would have absolutely predicted the weaponization that we’ve seen with these agencies, particularly Justice and FBI, because when you don’t have constitutional accountability, human nature is such that they will abuse their power, and that’s what’s happened. Nobody has held them accountable,” he said.

The Sunshine State Republican continued, “When I was in Congress, I remember, you know, Hillary had the emails with the classified and my view was, ‘well gee, you know, as a naval officer if I would have taken classified to my apartment I would have been court-martialed in a New York minute.’ And yet they seem to not care about that,” noting that there seems to be a completely different set of rules when it comes to Democrats like the failed 2016 presidential candidate and former first lady.

“Is there a different standard for a Democrat Secretary of State versus a former Republican president?” DeSantis asked. “I think there needs to be one standard of justice in this country. Let’s enforce it on everybody and make sure we all know the rules. You can’t have one faction of society weaponizing the powers of the state against factions that it doesn’t like, and that’s what we’ve seen.”

“And here’s the thing, there is obviously very high-profile examples, but there’s examples of ordinary people who may not get the same headlines,” he added. “A pro-life advocate may have twenty FBI agents storming their house at six o’clock in the morning. You may have parents going to a school board meeting in Virginia that are being surveilled by the FBI. So the weaponization of these agencies strikes at the heart of what it means to have a free society, and it’s not just affecting people at the top, it’s affecting people all throughout our country.”

“The weaponization of federal law enforcement represents a mortal threat to a free society,” he wrote. “We have for years witnessed an uneven application of the law depending upon political affiliation,” DeSantis wrote on Twitter after the news of Trump’s indictment broke on Thursday. “Why so zealous in pursuing Trump yet so passive about Hillary or Hunter?”

“The DeSantis administration will bring accountability to the DOJ, excise political bias and end weaponization once and for all,” he vowed.
