Following confirmation that it was, indeed, Florida that put dozens of migrants on two flights to Sacramento, Calif., Governor Ron DeSantis visited the southern border in Texas and defended his state’s involvement.
As BizPac Review reported, Progressive California Governor Gavin Newsom was beside himself when 16 migrants showed up in his “sanctuary state” and announced he has launched an investigation into DeSantis for possible “state-sanctioned kidnapping.”

“Today, Attorney General Rob Bonta and I met with over a dozen migrants in Sacramento,” Newsom said in a Saturday statement. “These individuals were transported from Texas to New Mexico before being flown by private chartered jet to Sacramento and dumped on the doorstep of a local church without any advance warning.”
“We are working closely with the Mayor’s office, along with local and nonprofit partners to ensure the people who have arrived are treated with respect and dignity, and get to their intended destination as they pursue their immigration cases,” Newsom continued. “My Administration is also working with the California Department of Justice to investigate the circumstances around who paid for the group’s travel and whether the individuals orchestrating this trip misled anyone with false promises or have violated any criminal laws, including kidnapping.”
After the second flight of migrants landed in the Golden State’s capital, Amelia Johnson, a spokeswoman for the Florida Division of Emergency Management, admitted that her state provided the private jets and said the migrants went voluntarily.
“As you can see from this video, Florida’s voluntary relocation is precisely that — voluntary,” she said on Tuesday in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Through verbal and written consent, these volunteers indicated they wanted to go to California. A contractor was present and ensured they made it safely to a 3rd-party NGO. The specific NGO, Catholic Charities, is used and funded by the federal government.”
“From left-leaning mayors in El Paso, Texas, and Denver, Colorado, the relocation of those illegally crossing the United States border is not new,” she continued. “But suddenly, when Florida sends illegal aliens to a sanctuary city, it’s false imprisonment and kidnapping.”
During a roundtable meeting at the border in Texas, DeSantis addressed the situation for the first time.
“We are not a sanctuary in Florida,” he said. “We know people want to come, and so the more we can divert before we even have to get there is good for our state.”

“These sanctuary jurisdictions are part of the reason we have this problem because they have endorsed and agitated for these types of open border policies,” the presidential candidate continued. “They have bragged that they are sanctuary jurisdictions. They attack the previous administration’s efforts to try to have border security. And so that’s the policies they have taken out.”
“Then what?” DeSantis asked. “When they have to deal with some of the fruits of that, they all of a sudden become very, very upset about that. Well, what are these people [in Texas] having to deal with here? I don’t see the sympathy for them.”
“The reality is the border should be closed,” he stated. “I don’t think we should have any of this. But if there’s a policy to have an open border, then I think the sanctuary jurisdiction should be the ones to bear that.”
