After a year or so of competing against one another, the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, the latter of which is funded by the Saudis, have agreed to merge.
“The PGA Tour, the dominant force in men’s professional golf for generations, and LIV Golf, which made its debut just last year and is backed by hundreds of millions of dollars in Saudi money, will together form an industry powerhouse that is expected to transform the sport, executives announced Tuesday,” according to The New York Times.
This is a stunning development in part because former President Donald Trump predicted it to a T.
“All of those golfers that remain ‘loyal’ to the very disloyal PGA, in all of its different forms, will pay a big price when the inevitable MERGER with LIV comes, and you get nothing but a big ‘thank you from PGA officials who are making millions of dollars a year,” Trump posted on Truth Social in July 2022.
“If you don’t take the money now, you will get nothing after the merger takes place and only say how smart the original signees were. Good luck to all and congratulations to really talented Cam Smith on his incredible win!” he added.
Unbelievable. @realDonaldTrump predicted the LIV-PGA merger last year:

By money, he meant all the money LIV Golf had been offering PGA Tour players to switch leagues.
“Players have reportedly been offered huge sums to join, while each LIV event offers $25 million in prize money — more than the $20 million for the PGA Tour’s flagship event — with the winner banking $4 million and the last-place player earning $120,000,” NBC News reported at the time.
“President Trump is always right,” Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung told Fox News after his boss’ correct prediction went viral this week.
While Trump hasn’t yet bragged about his correct prediction, he has praised the merger:
That said, Trump isn’t the only one who’s been making predictions.
Paige Renee Spiranac, a golf instructor and former brief professional golfer known for her looks, has predicted a “spicy” fallout from the merger.

In another tweet, she joked about golfers’ Phil Mickelson’s and Brandel Chamblee’s reactions to the merger. Both have previously bashed LIV Golf over its Saudi funding:

And in a final tweet, she referenced a scene from the popular show “Succession.”
“Spiranac … shared an image from one of the final scenes in ‘Succession,’ in which Shiv Roy grabs the hand of her estranged husband, Tom Wambsgans, after it’s been announced that he’s the new CEO of Waystar Royco,” according to the Daily Mail.

Speaking of spicy things, Netflix viewers of “Full Swing,” a golf documentary series, definitely have something to look forward too.
The show offers a behind-the-scenes look into the golf world. Thus, viewers of the show will be able to see what happened behind the scenes when the news of the merger broke.
You better believe we were filming when this broke. #FullSwing.

All this comes as the PGA Tour continues to face criticism for agreeing to merge with the Saudi-baked LIV Golf.
“PGA Tour sold out to LIV Golf and the Saudis. Pro golf will never be the same,” the headline of an opinion piece published in USA Today on Tuesday reads.
“[I]n less than a year, the Saudis went from disruptors to forcing a complete capitulation that laid the PGA Tour’s moral high ground to waste. From top to bottom, they own professional golf now. As was probably the intent all along, everyone else is just along for the ride,” the piece by sports columnist Dan Wolken reads.
Could not have said it any better than @DanWolken. The Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia outed the paragon of virtues at the PGA Tour as spineless men who never cared about human rights. They cared about $$$, and like Lefty they never cared where it came from.https://t.co/Hmf17IpvOt
