Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is being treated like the frontrunner in the 2024 Republican presidential primary by both Trump supporters and the liberal media, with both entities throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the popular governor. Both entities have also made it clear that Mrs. DeSantis is not off limits, despite her being the mother of three small children and who recently battled breast cancer.
Casey DeSantis was in the news over the weekend when she rocked a black leather jacket at a biker’s event in Iowa that featured an alligator over an outline of the state of Florida on the back, along with the words “Where woke goes to die.”
Katie Baker, the executive editor of the Daily Beast, pounced on the occasion to write a hit piece claiming Florida’s first lady was trying too hard. The op-ed was titled, “Casey DeSantis Is the Walmart Melania.”

“The First Lady of Florida showed up on the campaign trail in Iowa this weekend wearing a ghastly black leather jacket—American flag on the front, an alligator and the silhouette of her state on the back, with the sneering words, ‘Where Woke Goes to Die’—that brought to mind nothing so much as the racks of a Red State big-bin store where it would be retailing for $24.99,” Baker seethed.
“To be fair, Casey DeSantis wore the bomber to a charity biker rally and I’m sure the campaign intended it to be a viral moment, like Melania Trump’s infamous ‘I Really Don’t Care’ coat that the former First Lady donned to check out the border crisis,” she added.
Speaking of trying too hard, the article’s subtitle read, “She’d better hope that pleather is pudding-proof.”
Before taking exception to another person’s attire, Baker might first want to ensure that her own fashion statement is above reproach. Guess what? It’s not.
