Not-so-bright thief feeling ‘boxed in’ by his disguise exposes his mug at the worst possible time

A not-so-bright thief was feeling boxed in by his chosen means of disguise and momentarily removed a cardboard box he placed over his head, which ultimately lead to his capture.

The incident took place in Miami Gardens, Florida, at a smartphone repair shop. The crook broke in around 4 a.m. Saturday and was captured on surveillance video breaking the glass over a display case and scooping up the phones inside. It was at this point that his bulky disguise proved to be a detriment in acquiring his ill-gotten booty and the dunce briefly lifted the box, exposing his face.

NBC 6 obtained footage of the heist from the owner of Irepair Tech, who said the man absconded with 19 iPhones and $8,000 in cash.

The owner, Jeremias Berganza, kept a watchful eye out in the plaza where his shop was located and would discover the thief hanging out with some buddies at a nearby liquor store — this would lead to Miami Gardens police boxing up the case later that day, according to the affiliate.

The moral of the story may be that you never know what’s going to pop out of a box these days.
