Woman arrested after hiring hitman through ‘Online Killers Market’ to kill wife of man she met on web

After falling for a man she met on Match.com, an environmental compliance specialist surfed a website called “Online Killers Market” and allegedly ordered up a hit man to kill his wife.

Authorities were alerted to Melody Sasser’s alleged plot after an overseas law enforcement agency told the Department of Homeland Security that Jennifer Wallace was targeted for assassination, according to the Daily Mail, which reviewed an affidavit detailing a January transaction between a U.S. user called “cattree” and the administrator of Online Killers Market.

“Cattree” has been identified by prosecutors as Sasser.

Sasser allegedly provided the Killers Market with details of Wallace’s life in Prattville, Alabama, starting on January 11, 2023, with her full name, address, and an escrow payment.

In total, Sasser is believed to have paid the site $9,750 in Bitcoin to get the job done.

“It needs to seem random or accident, or plant drugs, do not want a long investigation,” she told the administrator, according to court documents. “She recently moved in with her new husband, she works at home and in office in Birmingham. She drives a blue Subaru Outba97ck, her husband drives a maroon Jeep Grand Cherokee.”

“Her husband works at Publix part-time,” she stated, “they have three dogs that bark and jump.”

Sasser also uploaded a photo of Wallace so the designated “hitman” would recognize her.

When told by police of the threat on their lives, Wallace immediately fingered Sasser.

Prior to moving to Alabama, Wallace said, Sasser and her husband, David, were hiking buddies in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Sasser showed up at the couple’s Alabama home and declared, “I hope you both fall off a cliff and die.”

The Wallace’s said they began getting threatening phone calls from someone using a voice-altering device.

According to prosecutors, Sasser used a fitness app called Strava to track the couple as they hiked. She then passed the information on to the would-be hitman.

Investigators ultimately followed the money and subpoenaed Coinhub, operators of the Bitcoin ATM machines Sasser is believed to have used.

Sasser used the Knoxville ATMs to purchase Bitcoin with cash on at least four separate occasions and then forwarded the funds to Online Killers Market’s digital wallet, according to the complaint.

Coinhub provided the transaction data and customer information, identifying Sasser as “cattree” via a phone number given to Online Killers Market to complete the money transfers. That phone number belonged to Sasser.

On May 18th, Sasser was arrested and remanded in custody. She’ll reportedly stay behind bars until her next court appearance on June 8th.

If there is one moral to this twisted story, it should be this: Do not trust online hitmen.

As BizPac Review reported in April, Air National Guardsman Josiah Ernesto Garcia, also from Tennessee, found that out the hard way after he applied to become a hired killer on what he later discovered was a parody site called “Rent-A-Hitman”
