Delta flight DL97 took off from Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport Friday en route to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport in Michigan with 261 passengers. However, one of those, a 34-year-old American man, created a problem for the other 260 after reportedly bringing alcohol on board and becoming violent, WXYZ reported.

“I’m under arrest for what?” the man could be heard asking law enforcement officials as he was escorted off the flight after an emergency landing at Stephenville Dymond International Airport on the island of Newfoundland.

The video was captured by fellow passenger Dena Haddad who told the outlet, “There was someone being violent and they wouldn’t calm down. We just wanted to get here as soon as possible. It was just kinda scary at that little bit.”

Other passengers spoke with Fox 2 and explained how the man had first been noticed to be causing a disruption, “The person who was sitting next to me had tried to go to the restroom — and she saw two people arguing. She was told by the crew to go to a different bathroom.”

The behavior had led airline personnel to restrain the passenger. However, sometime before the international flight could set down in Stephenville, the man broke free of his restraints leading five to six passengers to step in and hold the man until police could board and intercede.

“When we arrived to Canada and saw the police cars, we felt secured and fine,” another traveler said while passenger Gregory Wilson explained to WXYZ, “He was ready to throw hands. The whole back of the plane was interacting with him.”

A spokesperson for Delta issued a statement regarding the incident that read, “Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior, especially when it potentially compromises the safety of our customers and flight crew. This unruly customer was removed at Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador, and remanded to the custody of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.”

According to the outlet, the passenger remained in the custody of the RCMP as they conducted their investigation and the law enforcement agency reported a similar incident having occurred in February when a Detroit-bound Delta flight had to make an emergency landing on the mainland of the province when a reportedly intoxicated man was said to have “assaulted a number of flight attendants and uttered threats towards some of the crew and any law enforcement officers who may board the plane.”

In that case, 41-year-old Joao Pedro Hendriques Mota Calado was charged with assault, uttering threats and mischief over $5,000. Neither the identity nor the charges of the man removed from Friday’s flight had been reported.
