Biden faceplants at Air Force graduation speech; Trump, DeSantis react to nasty spill

President Joe Biden is ok after taking a nasty tumble during an address to graduating Air Force Academy cadets, a fall that likely won’t convince his critics that the octogenarian Democrat will be able to navigate his way through another four years in the White House if he wins reelection next year, a major concern of many.

On Thursday, Biden was delivering the commencement address at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, CO, a much more uplifting speech than when he spoke to black graduates at Howard University last month, touching upon the strength of diversity and the fight against climate change in his words of inspiration to the outgoing class. After shaking hands and saluting graduates, the 80-year-old commander-in-chief stunned the crowd by tripping and falling.

Biden was quickly helped back to his feet by an Air Force officer and two Secret Service members and returned to his seat, and the White House said that he wasn’t hurt.

“He’s fine,” White House communications director Ben LaBolt tweeted. “There was a sandbag on stage while he was shaking hands.”

Ironically, Biden had mocked President Donald J. Trump who experienced a similar lack of balance while walking down a slippery ramp at West Point in 2020.

“Look at how he steps and look at how I step. Watch how I run up ramps and he stumbles down ramps,” Biden joked. “Come on.”

Trump was asked about Biden’s faceplant as the 2024 GOP frontrunner spoke to supporters in the battleground state of Iowa where he was visiting on Thursday.

“He actually fell down?” Trump asked, seeming to be unaware of the news. “Well, I hope he wasn’t hurt. I hope he wasn’t hurt. ”

“You gotta be careful about that because you don’t want that, even if you have to tiptoe down a ramp,” he added, an apparent joke on himself over his West Point incident.

“That was the best speech I think I’ve ever made, and it was pouring rain and it was horrible and cold and windy,” Trump said. “And they have a ramp that was pure like an ice-skating rink, and it was like 25 feet long, and I’m talking to the general and he has boots on, you know big combat boots and their rubber soles…”

“And I have nice, leather [shoes], and I say, ‘You know what general, get ready. If I grab you, you just get ready cause I have this stupid ramp that somebody put up,” he added, saying that he “tiptoed down” and that he “suffered for that because the media never covered my speech.”

Biden’s other potential 2024 opponent, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also commented on his nosedive in front of the Air Force Cadets.

“I think a lot of people saw he had a fall at this Air Force event and you know, I don’t know if he sustained injuries but I just want to say that we hope and wish Joe Biden a swift recovery from any injuries he may have sustained,” DeSantis said from New Hampshire where he was campaigning.

“But we also wish the United States of America a swift recovery from the injuries it has sustained because of Joe Biden and his policies,” the Sunshine State Republican added.
