Tensions rise after ‘act of vandalism’ committed against elementary trans teacher ahead of Pride assembly

Someone burned a North Hollywood transgender elementary school teacher’s Pride flag, and the act of vandalism is now being investigated as a hate crime.

“We experienced a break-in over the weekend at Saticoy Elementary that resulted in vandalism and is being investigated as a hate-motivated incident,” the school told parents — many of whom are already protesting the school’s upcoming Pride assembly. “We are cooperating with law enforcement. This is a reminder that we rely on our entire school community to keep our school safe and secure by reporting any suspicious activity on campus after hours. If you see something, say something.”

In response to Saticoy’s Pride month assembly, during which, according to the Los Angeles Times, school administrators plan on talking about “families with gay parents,” angry parents set up on May 16 an Instagram account urging people to keep their children home on June 2 “to protest against Pride Day assembly, an inappropriate topic for our kids!”

The comments have gotten heated, so much so that, following the discovery of the burnt flag and the broken pot it was planted in on May 22, the trans “male” teacher was removed from the school over concerns by the Los Angeles Unified School District for “his” safety, according to an anonymous Times source.

The school scrubbed photos of the teacher from its website for safety reasons, but on Instagram, — both pre- and post-“transition” shots were uploaded “on conservative Instagram pages mainly used by parents opposed to Saticoy’s Pride assembly,” The Times reports.

“Here’s the special ed/3rd grade trans teacher (first pic as female, later male) at Saticoy Elementary who has made it a point to send message to [Armenian] kids about [Pride],” the post read.

One user noted that the teacher’s transgender identity was never a problem for parents until he involved the kids.

“Never did it bother anyone nor do we know of anyone making this person feel hated or unwanted,” the user said. “He has now decided to stir things up and make his private sexual business our kids.”

“Wouldn’t parents be uncomfortable with a trans person teaching their children to begin with?!” one user asked.

Meanwhile, one anonymous Saticoy teacher told The Times, “I don’t feel safe.”

“We’re in an atmosphere especially here in the United States with school shootings where, no, I don’t feel safe,” the teacher said. “I don’t think any of our teachers feel safe. And a lot of parents don’t feel safe about their children either.”

Never one to miss an opportunity to fan the flames and push his agenda, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) called the burning of the Pride flag “distressing.”

“I am deeply distressed by the burning of the Pride Flag at a San Fernando Valley elementary school,” he tweeted on Tuesday. “Every child deserves safety and acceptance. We must fight against discrimination and create an inclusive environment for all.  Hate has no place in our schools and communities.”

Unsurprisingly, protests — even violent ones — only distress Schiff when they go against his narrative.

In 2019, he proudly announced that he had joined “a hundred high school students in Burbank who walked out to protest gun violence.”


And while that walkout may have been peaceful, many of the George Floyd protests were not.

But Schiff praised them anyway.

“In Los Angeles and around the nation, Americans are demanding justice for George Floyd. An end to police brutality. And an end to systemic racism,” he tweeted almost exactly three years ago. “I stand with them.”


In response to his condemnation of the Pride protests, Schiff was blasted for missing the point.

“This burning of the Pride flag is about the radical left’s agenda. It has no place in America’s schools,” replied Fox News contributor Kyle Becker. “You use this flag as a passive-aggressive attack on Christianity and family values knowing it will get a reaction.”

“Show some ‘safety’ and ‘acceptance’ for Christians and parents who care about family values and you won’t see people lashing out at your neomarxist agenda,” he continued. “Children have a right to live an innocent childhood without sexual or political pressure.”
