On Thursday, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador railed against Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.), urging Latinos to not give him one vote in the upcoming 2024 presidential election due to his policies that call for defending the border and stopping illegal immigration.

“Hopefully Hispanics in Florida will wake up and not give him one single vote, to not vote for those who persecute migrants, those who don’t respect migrants,” López Obrador declared, according to The Hill.
The Mexican president is very chummy with President Biden who has done his level best to throw the borders wide open to illegal immigration. He stands against Republicans who want the exact opposite.
López Obrador spoke at his daily hours-long press conference, slamming DeSantis and claiming that the governor had “uncovered” himself by announcing his candidacy and then took credit for predicting DeSantis’ presidential run.
“As you can see I wasn’t wrong that all his politicking over migrants was because he wanted to be the Republican Party’s candidate,” he asserted.

The Mexican president went on to whine about the United States policies concerning border security and immigration.
“We have to be thinking about this regrettable phenomenon of necessary migration, used with political ends in the United States,” he bloviated in response to a question from The Hill. “The governor of Texas, campaigning, [saying] he will militarize the border and that he will continue building [the] wall; and the governor of Florida, the same, because he wants to be the Republican Party candidate and he’s politicking.”
DeSantis announced on Wednesday that he would seek the 2024 Republican nomination for president and then vowed to build a wall on the Mexico border. He claims Latino voters want strong enforcement on the southern border.
“We will move on day one by declaring a national emergency. We will construct a border wall. We will make sure we have remain-in-Mexico… And we really need to hold the Mexican drug cartels accountable because they’re facilitating a lot of this migration,” DeSantis vowed, according to Reuters.
“America’s a sovereign country. Our borders must be respected,” DeSantis said during the Twitter event where he made his announcement as a presidential contender. “We cannot allow drug cartels to poison our population with fentanyl.”
The leftist media seems to not understand why DeSantis is so keen on standing against illegal immigration because of Florida’s distance from the US-Mexico border. The reality is that the governor faces a great deal of illegal immigration from Cuba and Florida is a favored spot for illegal immigrants to go to once they cross the southern border. There is no mystery in his concern with illegal immigration.
This is absurd. Mexicans are literally fleeing your failed state seeking “refugee status” and you think DeSantis isn’t respecting them? lololol pinche pendejo @lopezobrador_ pic.twitter.com/F7pmy1CIEg

DeSantis has made headlines for using a government-chartered flight that transported nearly 50 migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard, Mass. He has also sent law enforcement from his state to the southern border in Texas. Both actions have caused leftists to pitch a prolonged fit.
López Obrador, who certainly has socialist leanings, appears to be in a panic because Hispanics are increasingly favoring Republicans. He is calling for them to “wake up” as they turn away from “woke” Democrats and their disastrous policies.
In 2022, 58 percent of Florida’s Hispanic voters voted for DeSantis in his reelection campaign. That’s according to CNN exit poll data analyzed by the Americas Society/Council of the Americas.
Another Republican favorite, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), lost the demographic by 2 percentage points in the 2006 election but won it back by a whopping 15-point margin in the 2022 election, indicating a massive shift in Hispanic politics. He won over 67 percent of Hispanics of Cuban heritage and 51 percent of those without Cuban heritage.
