Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that if elected, he could pardon the political prisoners who are locked up in a special Washington, D.C. prison for their role in the January 6, 2021 chaos at the Capitol, hinting that he could do likewise for former President Donald J. Trump.
On the day after he officially declared his 2024 White House candidacy, the Sunshine State Republican was busy making the rounds on conservative media where he discussed his candidacy and his vision for restoring normalcy to the country. During an interview on “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show,” he was asked about pardoning the persecuted protesters whose lives have been stolen away from them by a judicial system weaponized by the Biden regime, as well as Trump himself, by host Clay Travis.

“The DOJ and FBI have been weaponized. We see that. We see it in a variety of contexts, some of which you mentioned,” DeSantis responded.
“And so what I’m going to do is — I’m going to do on Day One – I will have folks that will get together and look at all these cases, who are people who are victims of weaponization or political targeting, and we will be aggressive at issuing pardons.”
He noted that BLM thugs aren’t subjected to the same standards in what he described as an “uneven application of justice.”
“And so we’re going to find ways where that did not happen and then we will use the pardon power — and I will do that at the front end. You know, a lot of people wait until the end of the administration to issue pardons,” he said. “We’re going to find examples where government’s been weaponized against disfavored groups, and we will apply relief as appropriate.”
DeSantis added, “But it will be done on a case-by-case basis, because I think you’ve got to make sure that… There’s a whole bunch of cases that don’t necessarily get headlines, but if people are being treated just because they don’t get on TV or something, they’re being treated disfavorably. They need to have a fair hearing as well.”
Travis then asked, “And that could be from a grandma who got arrested and prosecuted to all the way up to, potentially, Trump himself. Is that fair to say when you analyze what the charges might have been brought on a federal level?”
“I would say any example of disfavored treatment based on politics or weaponization would be included in that review, no matter how small or how big,” the governor responded.
The idea that DeSantis could undo the work of politicized prosecutors and biased judges drew a response from former congresswoman Liz Cheney whose hatred of Trump led her to burn down her own political career.
“Any candidate who says they will pardon Jan. 6 defendants is not qualified to be President,” wrote the defanged J6 committee attack dog on Twitter.

DeSantis’ remarks come at a time when Trump is in the crosshairs of special counsel Jack Smith who is reportedly zeroing in on the Mar-a-Lago documents as the reason to indict the 2024 GOP frontrunner and have him dragged in front of a hostile jury plucked from a poisoned D.C. Beltway pool that would relish the chance of sending the ex-POTUS to the special gulag that Biden’s political prisoners have been rotting in.
