White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre became fed up when a reporter pointed out that all of the doom-saying behind the debt ceiling doesn’t appear to be halting the president’s travel plans.
Despite forecasting catastrophe if the Republicans and Democrats can’t come together to halt the looming debt meltdown, the White House’s actions are speaking louder than its words. President Joe Biden is slated to visit Camp David over the weekend, then headed to Delaware.
When asked about this seemingly stark contrast in tone and action, KJP brushed off the question entirely.

“On the debt ceiling, you used words like catastrophic and devastating today, but the president again is going to Camp David this weekend and then going to Delaware. If the situation is so dire, then why is the president…” asked a reporter, who was rudely cut off.
“I just answered that question. Do you have another one? I literally just answered that question,” the press secretary snapped.
While she was not, in fact, asked this particular question, she had responded to another reporter asking if the president would stay in Washington, D.C. through the weekend to get some sort of deal worked out. Naturally, her answer deflected and blamed Republicans for the current “manufactured crisis.”
“The president will be wherever he needs to be to secure a reasonable bipartisan deal to prevent the economic catastrophe that Republicans are threatening … this, this manufactured crisis,” she said, promising that he will stay in touch with Congress members as they work through the issue.
“And so that is what he’s going to do. He’ll do that wherever he needs to be.”
It’s worth pointing out that the issue seemed important enough last week for Biden to come home early from a trip to Asia, as well as cancel a visit to Australia, in order to be present for the debt negotiations.
