Rasmussen reports ‘mysterious collapse’ of Biden’s poll numbers in 11 days, but it’s no mystery

President Joe Biden’s poll numbers dropped 10 percent in 11 days, according to Rasmussen Reports, which characterized the fall as a “mysterious collapse.” The drop took place from May 8 until May 19, and included an 8 percent decrease among Democrats, a 4 percent decrease among Republicans, and a 14 percent decrease among independents.

As Rasmussen noted, it’s the only nationally recognized public opinion firm that still tracks President Biden’s job approval ratings on a daily basis, but it doesn’t take a brain surgeon to understand what happened.

Two significant events occurred during that time. The first was the greatest surge of illegal immigrants in American history ahead of the end of Title 42, a week that saw 83,000 foreign nationals enter the U.S. illegally — the highest number ever recorded, according to Fox News reporter Bill Melugin. The second event was the release last Monday of Special Counsel John Durham’s report on the Russian collusion investigation, which found that the FBI “failed to uphold its mission” in pursuing a case against former President Donald Trump despite no real evidence.

Rasmussen linked to a poll on illegal immigration, which found that a majority of voters believe the problem is getting worse and, by a 3-to-1 margin, that there is currently a crisis at the southern border.

“The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 57% of Likely U.S. voters believe the problem of illegal immigration getting worse – up from 54% last August. Only 12% think the illegal immigration problem is getting better, while 29% say it’s staying about the same,” the polling outlet reported.

At the same time the border was being overrun, Biden laughed about the record-breaking surge while on a bike ride during yet another weekend getaway to his beach house in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

“How do you think things are going at the border, sir, with Title 42 lifted?” a reporter in the press gaggle asked.

“Much better than you all expected,” Biden quipped, before chuckling at his own remark.

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, may have hit the nail on the head when he said two days before Title 42 was set to end that the Biden White House wanted this to happen.

“On Monday, the Border Patrol apprehended over 10,000 illegal immigrants. Yesterday, the Border Patrol apprehended over 10,000 illegal immigrants. Those are both records. And this is a full on invasion. It is a crisis. And the Biden administration is cheering it on … they want this to happen. They want more people to come in, and they don’t care about the body bags that are piling up,” Cruz said.
