Newsmax host Eric Bolling offered some tough love to businessman Vivek Ramaswamy on his and other GOP candidates’ chances at the White House: “Why do people get into the race to be president?”
With over eight months remaining until the Iowa Caucuses and the New Hampshire primary, it remains anybody’s guess how accurate current polling will prove for a Republican field that has yet to fully develop. Speaking with Ramaswamy on Friday’s edition of “The Balance,” Bolling partially embraced the foregone conclusion that, out of a field likely no fewer than seven, the candidates chances were abysmal as he wondered at ulterior motives.
“I absolutely adore your policy. I just love everything you say,” the host gushed. “I’m a libertarian, I come from the business world and you are speaking exactly my language.”
“Now, I’ll be honest with you, I’m gonna look you right in the eye: I don’t think you’re going to be president,” Bolling contended. “But you might be vice president, you might be a cabinet member. You might be highly involved, and you might be president down the road. I see it. I see a path.”
With that said, the host admitted he didn’t see the same for Sen. Tim Scott (SC) or former UN ambassador Nikki Haley, leading him to ask, “Why do people get into the race to be president? Is it for — to be president, cause they think they’re going to be, or is it something else?”
Rawasmamy, was unshaken by the assertion as he declared his intent and affirmed the viability of his candidacy, “So I actually am in this race to win. I’m polling ahead of where Trump was when he came down the escalator…June of 2015, and everybody said the same thing about him back then as well.”
At the time, polls had shown then-candidate Donald Trump around 1-2% compared to establishment favorite former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush who topped many such votes with around 20% in a wider field, a fact that led the candidate to contend, “I admire what he did, but I’m the new outsider in this race.”

The businessman also noted, “I would rather have a sharp poke in the eye than pursue a career in politics. I didn’t think I was gonna be a politician — I’m not a politician. I enjoy building businesses, writing books and leading in other ways.”
“But I’m in this race, Eric, because I do think we can take the America First agenda to the next level. As Reagan did in 1980, I think we can actually revive what it means to be an American based on first principles and moral authority, not just vengeance and grievance,” he continued and added, “More importantly, I think that we’re gonna make the party better.”
The point drew audible support from Bolling who said, “Oh you are. Oh you are, my friend. Oh you are.”
“And you know what else you’re doing?” the host continued, “I don’t know if you realize what you’re doing…whether you win or not, you’re making the party better. You’re also teaching the party, the candidates, the people who lead the party on what America should be striving for.”
The first debate sanctioned by the Republican National Committee is slated for August amid doubts as to whether or not Trump would participate. However, as reported, an alternative debate remains possible hosted by former Fox News primetime host Tucker Carlson who allegedly spoke to the president about such an arrangement.
