Pregnant nurse smeared as ‘racist Karen’ strikes back with LITERAL receipts after battle over ‘stolen’ bike

Sarah Comrie, a six-month pregnant nurse, finished her 12-hour shift at New York City’s Bellevue Hospital and went to get on the Citi Bike she rented to pedal her way home when a group of five young men approached her and claimed the bike was theirs.

One of the men recorded the incident, as Comrie yelled for help.

“Please help me!” she repeatedly yelled to passersby. “Help!”

At one point, a man, also wearing hospital scrubs, can be seen talking on his phone. Comrie promptly bursts into tears, asking one of the black men to “Get off me!” as they bullied her, claiming she wasn’t really crying.

“How you stop crying?” one asked as she got off the bike in question. “Not a tear came down, Miss.”

The video quickly went viral.

The as-yet-unnamed Comrie was branded a “racist Karen” online.

“She also apparently had her home address posted on Twitter,” Substack journalist Greg Price reported. “These evil monsters on the internet literally were perfectly fine getting this poor woman killed for crying when a bunch of dudes tried to steal her bike.”

The New York Post reported that the “hospital ‘Karen'” was placed on leave by NYC Health + Hospitals.

“We are aware of the video involving a health care provider off duty and away from the hospital campus. The incident in the video is disturbing,” a spokesperson for NYC Health + Hospitals said in a Tuesday statement. “The provider is currently out on leave and will remain on leave pending a review. As a health system we are committed to providing an environment for our patients and staff that is free from discrimination of any kind.”

But, it turns out, the expectant mother was dragged through the dirt and defamed for nothing.

According to Comrie’s lawyer, the nurse has a Citi Bike receipt that proves the bike was hers all along.

“The receipts show unequivocally that she got the bike first,” attorney Justin Marino told DailyMail.com.

Despite being attacked online and having her reputation and job shredded, Marino says Comrie doesn’t hold a grudge against the men who accosted her.

“[T]here is no animosity towards the men in the video. We frankly wish them the best in the future,” he said. “The focus is clearing her name and going after the publications and high profile names that defamed her.”

To that end, Comrie’s friends and family have set up a GoFundMe to help with her legal fees.

“My name is Bob Roe, and this past Saturday, my niece, Sarah Comrie, a Physicians Assistant at Bellevue, became embroiled in a much-publicized incident with a Citibike that unfairly painted her as a racist ‘Karen’,” the page reads. “The facts have since proven this is a lie, but the damage has been done.”

“In fact, Sarah is a dedicated healthcare worker who is six months pregnant,” Roe continues. “She holds racial justice and equity dear, and has dedicated her life to serving NYC’s most challenged individuals. She does not wish to become a cause celebre, but the legal bills to save her livelihood and her reputation obviously are mounting. Please help!”

So far, more than $41,000 has been raised in support of the maligned mother-to-be.

On Twitter, Price noted that the original viral video had “41 million views on the original tweet.”

“What should be criminal,” he wrote, “is smearing somebody like this.”
