Hecht: Exposure is first step to bringing feds into line with the Constitution

Op-ed views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

The federal bureaucracy has morphed into a fourth branch of government in violation of the Constitution. It partners with Democrats and legacy media against the people while the Biden regime resists cabal exposure by House oversight actions.

We must identify and defeat the regime’s subversive plan to create a permanent one-party state run by Democrats. With a corrupt, hostile White House and Democrat Senate majority, the best House Republicans can do to protect our liberty is to expose Democrat criminality and subversion.

Congress is heading to court regarding FBI and State Department (DOS) failures to comply with subpoenas, and a DOS investigation would unravel the unaccountable federal bureaucracy. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) told Maria Bartiromo of Sunday Morning Futures on May 14 that court enforcement will be required to get the information “that we shouldn’t have any trouble in the world getting from our government.”

The FBI and DOS both said they could not comply with the House committees’ legal requests for information to protect the integrity of their internal procedures. This is not what our founders intended when they assigned Congress oversight responsibility of the executive branch.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) has set May 24 for a contempt vote against Secretary of State Antony Blinken if he fails to provide the subpoenaed material before then. If the committee sends a contempt vote to the full House, simple majority support would send a criminal referral to the Justice Department.

The Durham Report demonstrates the tip of the iceberg of criminality within the Barack Obama-led cabal. For example, he and former officials Vice President Joe Biden, CIA Director John Brennan, and FBI Director James Comey knew that Hillary Clinton’s campaign was “stirring up a scandal claiming interference by the Russian security services.”

Regarding the report, Fox Business host Stuart Varney told TV host and former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee the lack of accountability is disgraceful. Huckabee replied, “It’s beyond a disgrace … this is the real insurrection that we ought to be talking about, to try to overthrow the US government, and that’s exactly what these insiders at the Justice Department, FBI, the Democrat Party, and the press all colluded to do.”

Comer said “We have people that want to come forward, but honestly they fear for their lives. Not only are the Biden lawyers and the Biden White House intimidating them, the media is trying to intimidate and discredit them.” Democrats are resorting to demonization and “obstructing every step of the way.”

Republicans must continue to expose the regime and its bureaucrat partners wherever possible, preferably in areas the regime cannot call political. DOS provides such an opportunity.

Acting as Obama’s point man, Biden and DOS took control of Guatemala’s justice system in 2016. They jailed political opponents without evidence and in violation of law and protected their agents and allies regardless of crimes, as the Biden regime and its media and bureaucrat partners now do at home.

After Guatemala recovered control of its justice system in 2021, DOS blatantly intervened to continue its socialist assault and to hide its many crimes. Guatemala has been prosecuting DOS agents, who have a long and public record of crimes.

McCaul’s committee could easily show DOS criminality despite its stonewalling and break through the deep state wall of deceit.

This would induce current and former DOS officials—as well as officials from other agencies and countries—to come forward. They would be able to share DOS criminality since previously they never had a safe and feasible way to denounce it. Without any DOS excuse to delay the process the public would see the harm the bureaucracy does to our nation, which would facilitate other investigations.
