Fmr U.S. attorney says Biden allegations were once ‘bread and butter’ of DOJ’s fraud and corruption unit

When the House Oversight Committee reveals that multiple members of the President of the United States’ family have been taking money from foreign sources and then running the funds through shady shell companies to cover it up, you’d think the earth would stop rotating while journalists dig for the facts and the media gears up for 24/7 coverage. But according to a former U.S. Attorney, much of the press has been silent on allegations against the Bidens.

Brett Tolman, a former United States Attorney for the District of Utah, joined Fox News’s Trey Gowdy on “Sunday Night in America” and said he is a “bit dismayed that not all the media was there” for House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer’s explosive news conference. Comer, backed by several House Republicans, detailed President Joe Biden’s “influence peddling scheme” with America’s adversaries.

“You mention the partisanship, but you didn’t have several of the larger media stations covering this, and it’s a major announcement that they claim they were coming forward,” Tolman said.

According to records received from four banks, “ten million dollars had been passed through upwards of 25 different LLCs to nine different members of the Biden family and friends.”

“You and I know very clearly, if you can’t identify what the business of those 25 LLCs are, then what you have is a shell game to move money,” Tolman added.

Gowdy stated that the lack of “curiosity” from the media “shocked” him.

If the charges had been leveled against the Bush, Romney, or Trump families, he noted, “there would be D.C. media interest.”

“I was dumbfounded,” the host said. “We can’t get the DC media interested. Do you think the DOJ [Department of Justice] pays attention or are they investigating or not investigating in other ways?”

Tolman recalled his time as a federal prosecutor before becoming U.S. Attorney.

“The very last case I had involved the shell LLCs and the movement of money, and we couldn’t identify what the actual business was,” he said. “It is the kind of case that was the bread and butter of the Fraud and Corruption Unit at DOJ.”

Despite his past “fondness” for the Justice Department, Tolman said the DOJ is now “political.”

“We’re looking at a DOJ who refuses to prosecute certain cases now, that have a political angle to them,” Tolman said.

The department is re-prosecuting cases involving people who were granted clemency by Trump, he explained, “but they won’t go after a Joe Biden family member who appears to be in a crime syndicate.”

“This is the stuff, I back up and I look at and I say we’re in Bizarro world,” Tolman stated. “This is DOJ — the heart of what DOJ really was organized for, and that was to be able to piece together multi-faceted crime syndicates, which a local jurisdiction would have a difficult time doing.”

Gowdy referred to allegations that Hunter Biden lied on his application to purchase a gun.

“Lying and buying cases, they are not complicated,” he said. “You either told the truth on your application or purchased a firearm or you did not. It does not take four years to figure that out.”

“What is taking the department so long to decide whether or not to prosecute Hunter Biden?” he asked.

Tolman said that those kinds of cases “average nearly five years in federal prison” and aren’t the type of misdemeanor cases that prosecutors are “enthusiastic about.”

“The only explanation is that the executive level of the FBI and the executive level at DOJ, there are political decisions being made,” he said. “And if that’s the case, it is tragic for those of us who served in DOJ because that’s a new chapter that we never wanted to open.”
