The rapidly evolving technology of Artificial Intelligence and the lack of government oversight over its development and implementation is drawing heightened concerns, including from the Biden administration which is taking the risk of machines being one day able to turn against humanity seriously. But they could be shooting themselves in the foot by tabbing Vice President Kamala Harris as the new AI czar.
On Thursday, Harris met with the heads of tech giants, including Microsoft and Google, that are at the tip of the spear in the development of AI which the White House described as “one of the most powerful technologies of our time” and one which requires the mitigation of its risks.
The vice president hosted the get-together in the White House’s Roosevelt Room and, according to the Associated Press, President Joe Biden only “briefly dropped by” to say that he hoped that the group would “educate us,” apparently leaving the heavy lifting to his underling who has done such a bang-up job overseeing the border crisis that she merited the important new assignment.
“Artificial Intelligence is one of the most powerful tools of our time, but to seize its opportunities, we must first mitigate its risks,” Biden said in a post to Twitter featuring a video clip of his brief appearance at the meeting. “Today, I dropped by a meeting with AI leaders to touch on the importance of innovating responsibly and protecting people’s rights and safety.”

Some of the world’s most intelligent minds – of which the veep isn’t one of them – have warned of the perils of an unregulated AI and the potential that it could evolve to the point where it could one day destroy humanity in a scenario previously reserved for the realm of science fiction, with perhaps the most popular example being when Skynet became self-aware in the “Terminator” movie franchise.
“Advances in tech always present new opportunities and challenges. Generative AI is no different,” Harris tweeted with a picture of herself heading up the meeting. “Today, I met with CEOs of companies at the forefront of these advances to discuss the responsibility that governments and companies have to mitigate risks to protect the public.”

Twitter reacted to the news of Harris heading up the White House’s AI efforts and it was about as brutal as could be expected.
Can you imagine that we are putting @vp in the same room as some of the most highly intelligent people in the world. #wordsalad

If she’s in charge God help us.

Probably the only form of “Intelligence” that has ever been anywhere near that cackling shrew.

These jokes just write themselves! Kamala and any kind of intelligence in the same room ….. geesh.

You need to take this more seriously than sending VP chucklehead.

Well that’s like bringing a wooden spoon to a gun fight.

This has to be a joke, right? That’s like putting the stay puff marshmallow man in charge of the Ghostbusters.

So that means another task she’ll fail at miserably. She’s such a waste.

Fox News funnyman Greg Gutfeld had an absolute field day with the news of Harris’ new job.
“Oh, we’re screwed. But there’s one silver lining,” he joked. “Maybe if AI gains the upper hand, it can replace Kamala and would we even know the difference?”

“Today, the Biden-Harris Administration is announcing new actions that will further promote responsible American innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) and protect people’s rights and safety. These steps build on the Administration’s strong record of leadership to ensure technology improves the lives of the American people, and break new ground in the federal government’s ongoing effort to advance a cohesive and comprehensive approach to AI-related risks and opportunities,” the White House said in a Thursday statement.
“AI is one of the most powerful technologies of our time, but in order to seize the opportunities it presents, we must first mitigate its risks. President Biden has been clear that when it comes to AI, we must place people and communities at the center by supporting responsible innovation that serves the public good, while protecting our society, security, and economy. Importantly, this means that companies have a fundamental responsibility to make sure their products are safe before they are deployed or made public,” the regime added in its fact sheet.
