Fox News announced a settlement with Dominion Voting Systems and as CNN’s Jake Tapper struggled to seriously report a released statement on “journalistic standards,” many were quick to point to his own network’s legal stumbles.

Though a jury had been selected and seated and the trial for Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News was scheduled to begin Tuesday, behind-the-scenes negotiations were revealed to have come to an agreement. As Tapper would report, Fox was said to have agreed to pay Dominion over $787 million, a fact that had him quickly forgetting what his own network had put Nick Sandmann through.
“Fox trying to put a positive face on what can only be interpreted as one of the ugliest and most embarrassing moments in the history of journalism,” he announced during his Tuesday broadcast of “The Lead” before attempting to read a statement.
“Fox issued a statement saying, ‘We are pleased to have reached a settlement of our dispute-‘ dispute,” Tapper mocked, ‘-with Dominion Voting Systems.”
“We acknowledge the court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false. This settlement reflects-‘ I’m sorry. This is gonna be difficult to say with a straight face,” the smirking anchor confessed.
“‘This settlement reflects Fox’s continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards. We are hopeful that our-‘ sorry,” he laughed. “‘We are hopeful that our decision to resolve the dispute with Dominion amicably instead of the acrimony of a divisive trial, allows the country to move forward from these issues.'”
Tapper would later go on to rip Fox for “just chasing ratings,” a matter pointed out by Media Research Center Associate Editor Nicholas Fondacaro who opined, “Meanwhile, that perfectly describes Jeff Zucker’s tenure at CNN and during the Trump years.”
Tapper Fox News is “not a journalistic organization” but rather “just chasing ratings” and it “doesn’t really matter what they say.”

It was during that tenure that CNN had dragged then-Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann, who would go on to sue multiple corporate media outlets for the character assassination reporting they did on him after his interaction with a Native American activist at the 2019 March for Life rally.
CNN settled with Sandmann after he had brought a $275 million suit against them.

Fox News analyst Howard Kurtz had predicted that media figures would find difficulty with the Dominion settlement when he joined “Your World with Neil Cavuto” to break the news.
“I guess facing a jury has a way of concentrating minds in this situation, Neil,” Kurtz offered before adding, “And, although much of the media was looking forward to six weeks of, frankly, a lot of people in the mainstream media, anti-Fox, rooting for Fox to lose — they’re now going to be deprived that opportunity and the rest of us get to go home.”

As he summed up, “This had to do with the idea that Dominion voting machines, and former President Trump and his allies made this case on Fox and elsewhere, was somehow stealing votes from Donald Trump and flipping them to Joe Biden. That’s obviously false, those were conspiracy theories. But the case would have revolved around whether Fox had done due diligence, whether it was reckless, whether it was simply reporting, as the network contends, on an extremely newsworthy matter argued by the then-president of the United States himself.”

What the actual f*ck. The Judge just announced that Dominion has SETTLED its case with Fox and that the case has been resolved. This was a terrible decision by Dominion to settle — both for justice and for our democracy. Goddamnit.
