‘Stalinist Pelosi’: Nancy slammed for Soviet-style take on Trump persecution

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi was among the parade of Democrats who rejoiced after the news broke that a New York City grand jury had indicted former President Donald J. Trump but her reaction was evidence of her ignorance – or flagrant disregard – of the key tenet that is the very foundation of the U.S. system of justice.

In a shocking development given that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against the 2024 GOP frontrunner appeared to have stalled, the grand jury handed the prosecutor and his fellow Dems a big win with their charging of Trump, reportedly with over 30 counts in the investigation centering around a “hush money” payment to smut film “actress” Stormy Daniels.

Pelosi took to Twitter to cheer the good news but claimed that Trump did not enjoy the presumption of innocence, the longstanding bedrock principle that a defendant is innocent until proven guilty, a topsy-turvy distortion of a system that has been completely hijacked by Democrats who have weaponized it against their enemies.

“The Grand Jury has acted upon the facts and the law. No one is above the law, and everyone has the right to a trial to prove innocence,” Pelosi tweeted. “Hopefully, the former President will peacefully respect the system, which grants him that right.”

The octogenarian Democrat’s Soviet-style, through-the-looking-glass take was quickly flagged by Twitter users who pointed to an authoritative source in a fact check of the former Speaker.

“A presumption of innocence means that any defendant in a criminal trial is assumed to be innocent until they have been proven guilty. As such, a prosecutor is required to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the person committed the crime if that person is to be convicted. To do so, proof must be shown for every single element of a crime,” as defined by Cornell University Law School.

Pelosi’s twisted take unleashed a torrent of well-deserved scorn upon the corrupt authoritarian crone who has greatly contributed to the dragging of America, once the “shining city on the hill,” firmly into banana republic territory.

“The right to ‘prove innocence’? This is America, not Stalinist Russia,” Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) pointed out.

“Nancy Pelosi is dead wrong here. Does she really have no clue that the burden is not on a defendant to prove their innocence at trial?” Lee Zeldin, Pelosi’s former Republican House colleague pointed out.

“Wrong. So obviously wrong. Most Middle Schoolers know this—at least they used to, when civics and the Constitution was respected in schools,” former New York City Mayor and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani tweeted. “You’re innocent until proven guilty.”

Fox News host Mark Levin also saw echoes of Soviet totalitarian Joseph Stalin in Pelosi’s perverted view of justice: “Stalinist Pelosi. Prove innocent? It’s innocent until proven guilty, moron. Or at least used to be.”

Additional reactions to Pelosi’s Stalinist interpretation of American jurisprudence:

Perhaps more disturbing than Pelosi’s interpretation of the legal system is the lack of mainstream media attention to one of the nation’s top political leaders, which likely means that they agree with her.
