Pentagon dismantles DEI unit after GOP backlash, but will integrate agenda deeper into agency

There’s both good news and bad news to report about the Pentagon’s efforts at pushing so-called “diversity, equity, and inclusion” throughout the military.

The Department of Defense Education Activity, which provides education to the children of military members, has reportedly dismantled its entire “diversity, equity, and inclusion” unit amid pushback from Republicans.

That’s the good news. But there’s a catch.

“DoDEA’s director, Tom Brady, said he will be dispersing the DEI specialists into existing units as part of a ‘reconfiguration of talent,'” Fox News reported Friday.

And so DEI specialists will still be within the DoDEA — they just won’t have their own department, which is admittedly a slight improvement over the status quo.

The problem is that the DoDEA will still remain focused on DEI.

“The Department of Defense Education Activity’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts for our employees and in support of high achievement for our 67,000 military-connected students remains unchanged,” the department said in a statement to Fox News.

Moreover, the DoDEA plans to further entrench DEI into four key areas of its organization.

“Within the next month, we will integrate our DEI specialists into four key divisions at headquarters: Research, Accountability, and Evaluation; Strategic and Organizational Excellent; Professional Learning; and Human Resources,” according to a DoDEA email.

“This will bring specialized knowledge and skills into areas that reach across our agency and aid in addressing barriers to inclusion, closing gaps in representation, and incorporate the institutional insights we have gained over the past two years,” the email continues.

This news comes amid the continued fallout over former DoDEA chief Kelisa Wing’s blatant anti-white racism.

As previously reported, during the Black Lives Matter riots of 2020, Wing posted a nasty tweet disparaging white people.

“I’m so exhausted at these white folx in these PD sessions this lady actually had the CAUdacity to say black people can be racist to….I had to stop the session and give Karen the BUSINESS…we are not a majority, we don’t have power. (A thread) why ask for assistance,” the tweet read.

It was also discovered that Wing is the author of several race-based children’s books titled “What Is White Privilege?”, “What Does it Mean to Defund the Police?”, and “Jim Crow and Policing and Atrocities in Action”.

These discoveries last September prompted backlash from Republicans, who submitted a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin demanding that the Pentagon investigate Wing for “egregious bias.”

“The fact that Ms. Wing’s history of advocating for extreme woke ideologies was not uncovered, or worse ignored, must be remedied. The Department of Defense must realign their priorities away from woke ideologies and back to strengthening our national defense,” Rep. Elise Stefanik said in a statement at the time.

“Right now, as the Pentagon fails to fill our military ranks and our adversaries around the world rapidly increase their capabilities, the Department of Defense has routinely prioritized adhering to woke ideologies instead of strengthening our national defense. This is shameful and an insult to the brave men and women who selflessly serve our nation,” she added.

Yet as of late March, King reportedly still remained a Pentagon employee, with Pentagon’s Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness — Gil Cisneros — having concluded that she shouldn’t be punished because it was “determined” she’d been “speaking in a personal capacity.”

It’s not clear what exactly happened to her.

“Cisneros had previously claimed in a letter to Congress that Wing was involved in a restructuring, and that she was no longer involved in ‘DEI-specific responsibilities.’ When Fox News Digital followed up, pressing to confirm that Wing – a DEI specialist – was not involved in DEI, it refused to provide additional information relating to personnel matters,” according to Fox News.

The news regarding the DoDEA also comes amid GOP-voiced concerns about declining recruitment numbers.

“The military’s purpose is to fight and win—not crusade for social causes. As a combat veteran, this is personal to me… Our adversaries are watching,” Sen. Joni Ernst reportedly said.

“If President Biden wants to know why he has a recruitment problem and low morale, he need look no further,” Sen. Tom Cotton added, reportedly referring to a report about Wing’s posts.

Meanwhile, Rep. Chip Roy and Sen. Marco Rubio produced a report, “Woke Warriors,” that reportedly documents examples of critical race theory being practiced within the military.
