Matt Gaetz calls on Ron DeSantis, Ted Cruz to endorse Trump in 2024: ‘Stand with us’

U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., made it clear where his loyalties lie in the 2024 Republican presidential primary while warming up the crowd in Waco, Texas for Donald Trump.

Sporting a fire-red blazer, Gaetz stressed that Trump played a key role in the success of Sen. Ted Cruz and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and called on the two Republican heavyweights to endorse the former president.

“Only Donald Trump could have rescued us from Hillary Clinton,” Gaetz said. “Without Trump doing three rallies in the final week in the 2018 election in Florida, my governor today would probably be Andrew Gillum. How weird is that? And without Trump dragging Ted Cruz across the finish line, your senator would probably be beta-Beto.”

“So Ron DeSantis, Ted Cruz: patriots of the MAGA movement delivered for you in your time of need,” he continued. “Today, Ron DeSantis and Ted Cruz should endorse Donald Trump for president and stand with us as we were so proud to stand with them.”

“This is no time for amateurs or impersonators or understudies,” Gaetz would add. “There is no success without victory and there is no Trumpism in 2024 without Donald J. Trump.”

For the record, the Florida lawmaker joined DeSantis on the stump in June 2018 when he was running against Gillum — after the election, the Democrat was found passed out naked in a Miami Beach hotel room after a tryst with a male prostitute. Methamphetamine was also reportedly found in the room.

Gaetz took a potshot at DeSantis during a recent NewsNation interview, commenting on the “uncouth” governor for sniping at Trump in the face of a rumored indictment out of New York City — an indictment that looks less likely with each passing day.

“If I were Governor of Florida, I would not allow any Floridian to be hauled before some George Soros-backed prosecutor in some blue city over politics. And I wouldn’t make an exception to not protect the President of the United States,” he said. “Ron DeSantis should be standing in the breach to stop any sort of extradition of President Trump from the state of Florida.”

Targeting those in the GOP who told Trump not to run again, Gaetz proclaimed, “This is Donald Trump’s party, and I’m a Donald Trump Republican.”-

Gaetz also targeted former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley in his Waco speech, playing on the announced GOP presidential candidate’s campaign video declaring that she doesn’t “put up with bullies. And when you kick back, it hurts them more if you are wearing heels.”

“Nikki Haley says that we must kick all of the world’s bullies with heels,” Gaetz told rallygoers. “But we cannot go kicking and screaming around the globe, starting new wars behind every Middle Eastern sand dune as Nikki Haley would have us do.”

“So, Nikki Haley can keep clicking her heels,” he said. “What we know is that President Donald Trump will bring America’s enemies to heel.”
