A Florida state lawmaker was duped into calling two fake names with sexual overtones during a House Civil Justice Subcommittee meeting this week.
Pranksters took advantage of the great care lawmakers exercise in recognizing the public at committee meetings — a phenomenon of greater priority to Republicans than Democrats, given the disparity in media coverage of shortcomings here — submitting the names to be read into the record as opposing a measure under consideration.
“Anita Dick,” said state Rep. Will Robinson Jr., before pausing to look for this nonexistent person. “Is an opponent… waives in opposition.”
The Republican lawmaker had no idea at the time that he was being pranked but the woman sitting next to him, perhaps an administrative aide, caught on real quick as she is seen holding up her hand to her mouth.
“Holden Hiscock,” Robinson continued. “Also an opponent. Waives in opposition.”

To his credit, Robinson showed that he has a sense of humor about being the butt of the joke when he took to Twitter afterwards to say, “Committee does meet again next week! Anita and Holden, please stop by!”

It’s not clear who’s behind the juvenile prank. While Florida appears to be a red state today, the state legislature — which meets early each year for a single 60-day session in Tallahassee — is inundated with left-wing activists, unions and non-profits that dominate the state capitol through much of this time. Tallahassee is also a college town, home to Florida State University and Florida A&M.
