Candace Owens apologizes for ‘honest mistake’ that triggered Christina Applegate into Twitter rant

Conservative commentator and podcaster Candace Owens is facing backlash from famed actress Christina Applegate over remarks she made Tuesday about a 2022 advertising campaign for socialite Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS clothing line.

What irked Owens about the ad was that it featured a model in a wheelchair. The conservative commentator felt it was yet another example of the left’s obsession with so-called “inclusion” having gone too far.

“I don’t really understand how far we’re going to take this inclusivity thing. I really don’t get it. I don’t know. And if I’m wrong, again, educate me. Today, I just want to be educated in the comments. … Why did they do this? I don’t know. I don’t know why this needed to be done. I’m getting tired of this all-inclusivity thing. It seems ridiculous,” Owens said on the Tuesday episode of her podcast.

“Look, I assume that people who’re in wheelchairs also have to buy bras, also have to buy underwear…I didn’t know that we needed to see that in our face. I didn’t know that now we’re going to have to look forward to campaigns where women who are in wheelchairs are now wearing bras and underwear because we as a society cannot get to the bottom of our ridiculousness,” she added.

“By the way, I think people in wheelchairs will back me up on this. I think they’re on my side. I think they think this is stupid,” she concluded.

Listen:

Her words deeply upset Applegate, who announced in August of 2021 that she’d been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

“Some people with severe MS may lose the ability to walk independently or ambulate at all. Other individuals may experience long periods of remission without any new symptoms depending on the type of MS they have,” according to the Mayo Clinic.

In other words, some MS patients need a wheelchair. While Applegate doesn’t appear to be one such patient, Owens’ words still hurt her enough that she posted a Twitter thread early Thursday morning about it.

Look (*Language warning):

As seen above, she called what Owens said “gross” and expressed her “rage” over it. However, a couple hours later she posted a more conciliatory tweet revealing that she’s willing to “educate” Owens about this issue if she’d like.

Owens responded later that morning by essentially saying sure.

“Hey Christina— huge fan of yours. Would welcome a discussion with you.
DMs open ❤️,” the conservative commentator wrote.

She also apologized for not having properly understood the purpose of the SKIMS ad and explained the reasoning behind her initial criticism.

However, Applegate apparently changed her mind, because she responded to Owen’s sincere apology by somewhat dismissing it.

Look:

Note how she also never addressed Owens’ invitation for her to come on the conservative commentator’s show.
