D.A. Bragg BLAMES Trump for creating ‘false expectation’ of arrest, rips GOP as case appears to implode

As news comes down that the grand jury empaneled in the Stormy Daniels case against Donald Trump has been sent home for the rest of the week, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is playing defense, blaming the former president for creating a “false expectation” that he would be arrested and blasting Republican lawmakers for their “indefensible” inquiry into “a pending criminal investigation.”

Following a Truth Social post from Trump declaring that his arrest was imminent, several GOP House Committee chairs, including House Judiciary Chair Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and House Oversight Chair James Comer (R-Ky.), fired off a letter to Bragg, in which they accused the D.A. of “unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority” should he indict “a former President of the United States and current declared candidate for that office.”

“If these reports are accurate,” they wrote, “your actions will erode confidence in the evenhanded application of justice and unalterably interfere in the course of the 2024 presidential election.”

The lawmakers stated that they expect Bragg to “testify about what plainly appears to be a politically motivated prosecutorial decision.”

In a Thursday email, Bragg claimed his investigation of Trump “has been conducted consistently with the District Attorney’s oath to faithfully execute the laws of the State of New York” and called the chairmen’s letter “an unprecedent[ed] inquiry into a pending local prosecution.”

“The Letter only came after Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested the next day and his lawyers reportedly urged you to intervene,” Bragg wrote. “Neither fact is a legitimate basis for congressional inquiry.”

Naturally, Bragg didn’t have any stones to throw at the media outlets, such as NBC, who reportedly sparked Trump’s frantic post with a claim that “Local, state and federal law enforcement and security agencies are preparing for the possibility that former President Donald Trump will be indicted as early as next week, according to five senior officials familiar with the preparations.”

According to the rabidly biased D.A., the Republicans’ requests “are an unlawful incursion into New York’s sovereignty.”

“[Y]our letter treads into territory very clearly reserved to the states,” Bragg wrote, quoting various legal cases. “It suggests that Congress’s investigation is being ‘conducted solely for the personal aggrandizement of the investigators or to ‘punish’ those investigated’ and is, therefore, ‘indefensible.’”

“[T]he District Attorney is obliged by the federal and state constitutions to protect the independence of state law enforcement functions from federal interference,” he continued. “The DA’s Office therefore requests an opportunity to meet and confer with committee staff to better understand what information the DA’s Office can provide that relates to a legitimate legislative interest and can be shared consistent with the District Attorney’s constitutional obligations.”

Online, many saw Bragg’s response as proof that he is attempting to “walk back” what seemed to be a sure indictment after receiving a tsunami of criticism from politicians, legal experts, and voters alike.

“To sum up: @ManhattanDA is attempting to walk back his indictment against President Trump because he knows that it will never result in a conviction,” tweeted one user. “Also, he’s attempting to refuse a Congressional Inquiry into his( Braggs ) malicious prosecution and overreach.”

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail is reporting that the grand jury in the case has been told to take the rest of the week off.

According to sources, the outlet states, Bragg is ” having trouble convincing jurors to indict Trump.”

“They are having trouble convincing the jury to swallow the case,” one source said. “It’s a weak case and has caused divisions in the DA’s office.”
