Bragg could back down on indicting Trump, sources say

The legal fate of former President Donald J. Trump remains in limbo as a New York grand jury will again convene on Wednesday and there is a chance that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg could get cold feet on bringing an unprecedented indictment against the 2024 GOP frontrunner.

Sources familiar told Fox News Digital that there “remains a real chance” that Bragg may choose not to indict Trump and could back away from the brink amid other reports that an indictment is imminent.

“Multiple sources told Fox News that at least one more witness is expected to appear before the grand jury when it convenes Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Manhattan. It is unclear at this point who the witness or witnesses are,” the outlet reported.

Trump has not yet been notified that he will be indicted although another source told Fox News that if the rabidly partisan Bragg does choose to effectively cross the Rubicon, an indictment of the leader of the opposition party could come as early as Wednesday.

If an indictment does come down, Trump’s legal team would be notified immediately and will enter into negotiations on the terms of a court appearance with Bragg’s office with the earliest that the former president could appear in court being next week.

“There will be no arraignment this week,” the Daily Mail reported, citing a source who is “familiar with the proceedings” now that Tuesday has passed and Trump was not arrested as he had said he would be in a Truth Social post calling for his supporters to turn out in protest.

On Tuesday as a tense city girded for demonstrations, the New York Police Department was ordered to dress in full uniform to be on high alert for any possible civil unrest that could be triggered by Bragg’s decision.

The historic indictment would be a watershed event, especially given the trivial nature of the case which centers around a “hush money” payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 election, a seismic event in which the bombastic billionaire outsider sprung the upset on heavily favored Hillary Clinton in a result Democrats and their allies refused to accept, immediately undertaking a strategy to take out Trump by any means necessary using a plethora of investigations, staged mass protests and the use of the media to sow the seeds of discontent with 24/7 anti-Trump propaganda.

On Tuesday, Trump again slammed Bragg who has treated real criminals in the Big Apple with kid gloves while weaponizing his office in service of the Democratic Party’s political agenda.

“How can a highly controversial, George Soros backed District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, who presides over one of the most crime ridden, violent, and dangerous Cities in the U.S., with no retribution toward these heinous criminals, bring charges against the 45th, and quite possibly the 47th, President of the United States, who received more votes than any sitting President in history, over 75,000,000, and who is currently leading all candidates, by a lot, when there is NO CRIME OF ANY KIND???” Trump wrote in a post to Truth Social.

Whether Bragg gets the yips at the last minute will soon be seen but the idea that he could stand down was also floated by CNN’s Van Jones.

“I think that the heat is on this DA, I think he’s going to make a very sober decision and I would not be surprised if he doesn’t step back from the brink,” the pundit said on Monday night.
