Longtime Dem, legal scholar Alan Dershowitz says indictment of Trump is a total sham

The heavy-handed move by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and New York City prosecutors to bring an unprecedented indictment against former President Donald J. Trump is such a dramatic weaponizing of the legal system for purely political purposes that it is even being denounced by some liberals, with one of them being Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz.

The acclaimed legal scholar and longtime Democrat shared his take on the trumped-up case against the former president who is being railroaded by Bragg on an old charge over a payment of “hush money” to stripper and adult movie “actress” Stormy Daniels over an alleged affair, a transaction that took place before the 2016 election and has been resurrected by the intensely partisan Bragg in a preemptive strike by Democrats to take Trump off the playing board before the 2024 election.

According to Dershowitz, Trump should have no expectation of receiving fair treatment in New York, a city that is completely controlled by Democrats who continue to be elected despite Gotham’s staggering crime problem, a dangerous situation that isn’t helped by Bragg whose office coddles thugs and criminals who are soon back out on the streets where they prey on the citizenry.

“There’s no question about this purely, purely political,” he told Newsmax. “Look the attorney general of New York ran on a campaign to get Trump, Bragg essentially the same thing. This is one hundred percent political.”

“There is no basis for this prosecution, but with the judiciary in New York, you never know,” Dershowitz continued, referring to the completely politicized system in the Democrat-controlled city and state. “The courts could uphold it, that’s the problem.”

“The problem is every part of the judicial system has become politicized. Get Trump! This get Trump business, this idea about which I wrote this book ‘Get Trump’ has permeated every aspect of our legal system,” he added, displaying a copy of his newly released book that is a best seller on Amazon.

“And so normally a person has a guarantee that the courts at least will free him, here there’s no assurance that the courts of New York will,” he said.

“It may have to go up to the United States Supreme Court,” Dershowitz predicted.

The lifelong Dem and professor emeritus also noted that in the worst-case scenario, Trump could still run for the presidency even if he is thrown into prison by Bragg and his malicious prosecutors.

“He will be indicted,” he said. “In New York, you can indict a ham sandwich. In New York City, you can convict a ham sandwich because the jury pool is so unfair. Even if he’s convicted, he can run for president. He can run for president from prison; he can even serve as president from prison.”

Dershowitz penned a column for the New York Sun last week calling an indictment of Trump over the Stormy Daniels saga “targeted injustice” and accusing Bragg of weaponizing his office.

“Not to compare Mr. Bragg’s NYC to Stalin’s Soviet Union, a sordid episode from the past does come to mind: the notorious head of the KGB, Lavrentiy Beria, once said to Stalin: ‘show me the man, and I will find you the crime.’ Closer to home, J. Edgar Hoover would often target his political enemies for investigation. Or as a South American dictator once threatened: ‘for my friends everything; for my enemies the law,'” he wrote, lending some historical context to Bragg’s pursuit of Trump.

“All decent people, whether politically opposed to Mr. Trump (as I am) or supportive of his candidacy, should be concerned about this weaponizing of the prosecutor’s office for the political purpose of preventing a potential candidate from running for office,” Dershowitz added.

“Get Trump warns that regardless of whether this anti-democratic effort to stop Trump from running succeeds or fails, it is likely to create dangerous precedents that will lie around like loaded weapons ready to be deployed against other controversial candidates, officials, or citizens about whom it can be argued that the danger they pose ‘is different,'” reads the Amazon description of Dershowitz’s new book which was released last week.
