Jordan leads GOP charge, set to demand testimony from Manhattan DA over Trump indictment talk

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is reportedly getting ready along with other senior GOP leaders to demand testimony from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office over the expected indictment of former President Trump.

According to Politico, “Republicans are discussing firing off letters summoning employees of the Manhattan DA’s office for sworn testimony, according to a GOP official familiar with the plans. The potential request comes amid speculation about why the hush-money case was suddenly resurrected after being back-burnered by both state and federal prosecutors.”

The GOP-led House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government is gearing up to expand its investigation into President Biden’s family and, coincidentally, the use of federal funds by Manhattan’s Democratic District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

“The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the plans are not final, noted that Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a longtime Trump ally and close friend, is ‘fully supportive and pushing folks to be aggressive here,'” Politico reported.

“This is a [George] Soros-backed, crazy, left-wing prosecutor … and he is doing this purely political sham,” Jordan told Politico in an interview.

“Here we go again — an outrageous abuse of power by a radical DA who lets violent criminals walk as he pursues political vengeance against President Trump,” House Majority Speaker Kevin McCarthy tweeted. “I’m directing relevant committees to immediately investigate if federal funds are being used to subvert our democracy by interfering in elections with politically motivated prosecutions.”

McCarthy tore into Bragg at a press conference as House Republicans gathered to discuss and formulate their 2023 agenda plans.

“I wouldn’t just talk to 75 million Americans — I would talk to 330 million Americans,” McCarthy asserted, answering a question from Breitbart about what he would say to the 75 million Americans who voted for Trump in the 2020 presidential election. “I would say it doesn’t matter what side of the issue you’re on. It doesn’t matter if this was President Trump or if this was a Democrat. It should be equal justice in America.”

“And stop going after people because you have political differences. I see people all the time who I have political differences with. I respect their opinion. I may disagree with it. But why would you ever try to use the law for it? It goes directly against everything this Manhattan DA has professed. He brags about lowering felonies to misdemeanors as a prosecutor. We’ve watched crime in New York where people are afraid to walk the streets. We’ve watched campaigns,” he continued.

“I will tell you one of the reasons we won races in New York is based upon this DA, of not protecting the citizens of New York — and now he’s spending his time on this? The statute of limitations are gone. It doesn’t matter what side you’re on. This is the type of thing America hates and divides us and is wrong,” McCarthy stated.

“Let’s walk through this. This is a DA that won a million dollars from Soros that actually funds, for political purposes, who becomes a DA,” he said as other Republicans lined up to take a jab at the leftist DA. “This is a DA that has watched crime and prides himself on not prosecuting felonies, and actually lowering them down to misdemeanors, which has caused a lot of the crime and why people have risen up.”

“This is a DA who has watched two other DAs say this wasn’t a crime in passing,” McCarthy commented. “You can go through lawyer after lawyer after lawyer after lawyer and they’ll tell you this is the weakest case out there, trying to make a misdemeanor a felony. The timeline doesn’t work because too long has passed — and doing it after a person for political purposes.”

“So it’s interesting to me that he spent his whole time as a DA lowering felonies not to prosecute. I think Republicans and Democrats alike hate this type of justice. You know, you serve in Washington, so you see the Supreme Court and you see the statue out there: It’s a lady sitting there with a blindfold on and a scale. It’s supposed to be equal to all in America. The last thing we want or have is somebody putting their thumb on the scale simply because they don’t agree with somebody else’s political views. That is what’s wrong and that is what infuriates people. This will not hold up in court if this is what he wants to do,” he railed.

“He should come testify before Congress,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) remarked to Politico regarding Bragg.

Rep. Scott Perry (R-Pa.) also told Politico he wants to see Bragg dragged in front of the panel.

“If that happens, Republicans want to have a response ready to go. They say they’re going to investigate the Manhattan District Attorney, who would be bringing these charges against Donald Trump,” Politico‘s Rachel Bade noted on Politico Playbook’s podcast Monday.

McCarthy told Breitbart News at the House GOP retreat in Orlando on Sunday that there could be some sort of action by Jordan even before a potential indictment. It could come as early as Monday.

That could include calling Bragg and other members of his office before the investigative panel and putting them under oath over the potential indictment.
