‘Never bow to the mob’: Twitter erupts after ‘Libs of TikTok’ NYC story hour event canceled over threats

A New York City story hour event meant to compete with Drag Story Hour hosted by the NY Attorney General Letitia James has been canceled after the featured author, Libs of TikTok founder Chaya Raichik, drew “threats of potentially inappropriate and unsafe behavior,” according to conservative book publisher Brave Books.

Raichik, 28, announced last week, “NY AG Letitia James is hosting a drag story hour for kids this Sunday. I decided to host my own story hour down the street from hers!”

“Protect your kids and come hear an important message at an event that’s actually family friendly,” she urged her many fans.

The event was to be held at the Women’s National Republican Club and would feature, along with Raichik and her new children’s book, No More Secrets: The Candy Cavern, Brave Books CEO and founder Trent Talbot and his book, Fight For Freedom Island.

But just two days before the story hour was set to take place, Brave Books took to Twitter to announce its cancellation.

“We have received threats of potentially inappropriate and unsafe behavior at the NYC story hour with Chaya Raichik on Sunday and have advised Chaya we cancel the event,” the publisher stated. “With children being involved, we don’t want to take any chances.”

“We will find a way to combat this moving forward,” Brave Books vowed. “Stay tuned for an announcement in the coming days.”

The announcement sparked immediate backlash on Twitter, with angry followers suggesting that the publishing company may want to think about changing its name.

“When will you be changing the name since ‘Brave’ no longer fits?” asked one user.

“Nothing Brave about you!” exclaimed another. “Get rid of that name!”

“‘Brave Books,'” wrote a third, “now known as ‘Weak Reads’.”


Others were furious at the book publisher for “bowing to the mob.”

“F–king cowards,” one user tweeted. “So pathetic. Never bow to the mob.”

“That’s exactly what we can’t have in our society. We can’t have an angry mob that appears out of nowhere to silence people they don’t like,” another stated. “Get some law enforcement there and allow her to speak. That’s insane.”

“It’s pathetic and absurd,” yet another stated. “NYPD can’t protect y’all?”

As BizPac Review previously reported, Raichik’s adorably-illustrated picture book looks to help little kids and their parents to spot “predatory behavior.”

“I wanted to do the next step, which is to give parents and children a tool that they can use to actually be able to spot predatory behavior,” Raichik told the New York Post. “This book basically teaches children that if there is a trusted adult or an authority who’s telling you to keep secrets from your parents…then that is a big red flag.”
