Police have seized 80 devices containing thousands of videos and images of suspected child pornography from a resident Massachusetts doctor trainee who allegedly wore a bracelet containing a hidden camera to record himself examining minors as young as six years old.
Dr. Bradford David Ferrick, 32, was charged with one count of possession of child pornography and held without bail after appearing at a Boston federal court on Tuesday, the Daily Mail reports.
Both Ferrick’s Amherst apartment and his parents’ $1.1 million Winchester mansion were raided by authorities, who initially discovered on February 13, 61 devices — including external hard drives, computers, cell phones, and hidden camera systems — that allegedly contained the vile images.
That first search ended with Ferrick’s arrest. However, the doctor-in-training posted bail at Woburn District Court and was released on home confinement, according to Boston25 News.
On February 17, a second search of his home yielded an additional eleven devices, investigators explained.
After appearing in federal court, Ferrick was detained pending a March 21 hearing. Police have uncovered pictures and videos of children ranging from ages six to 11.
“During one recording obtained by police, he was heard discussing a young male patient’s genitals with the boy’s mom, although they cannot be seen in the clip, it’s alleged.,” according to the Daily Mail.
Ferrick had, since July, been working to complete his medical residency with Baystate Franklin Family Medicine. His focus was on family medicine, and his residency included rotations at facilities in Greenfield, Deerfield, and Springfield.
The investigation into child pornography began back in January after a Google account was flagged by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children for uploading suspected inappropriate images of children.
IP addresses were used to hone in on Ferrick.
Two of the uploaded images, one from November 2021 and another from March 2022, were tracked to an IP address close to the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, where the would-be doctor was attending med school. More images were allegedly uploaded at an IP address tied to his family home.
As Ferrick was being arrested following the first raid, his father reportedly claimed to investigators that the seized devices belonged to him. Ferrick, at that time, declined to speak with the police.
After the allegations surfaced, Ferrick was placed on unpaid administrative leave.
“We are cooperating with law enforcement authorities as they proceed with their investigation,” a spokesperson for Baystate Health, who added that they can’t comment on pending criminal charges, said, according to Boston25.
“Today we allege that this doctor, who held a position of trust with access to children, maintained child sexual abuse material,” said United States Attorney Rachael Rollins. “I can think of no greater fear as a parent or guardian than potential harm coming to your child.”
As part of the federal investigation, authorities searched the home of relatives of Ferrick, where they found a hidden camera disguised as a wall outlet in a bathroom. Two young children live at that property, the Daily Mail reveals.
