Comer unveils ‘new’ Biden family member who reportedly received money from China

House Oversight Committee chair James Comer finally unveiled the secret “new” Biden family member on Thursday.

As previously reported, on Tuesday he detailed on Fox News how newly obtained financial records show that a previously unheard-of Biden family member accepted part of a $3 million payment from Chinese Communist Party-linked figures shortly after current President Joe Biden’s tenure as vice president ended in 2017.

“There were three different Biden family members that received a cut from that $3 million, including a new Biden family member that’s never before been included in any of these investigations. So, our question is: What exactly did they do to receive that money? What was the purpose of that $3 million wire?” he said.

However, at the time, he abstained from naming the culprit.

Fast-forward to Thursday, when Comer released a memo revealing that the previously unknown Biden family member was Hallie, the widow of President Biden’s eldest son, Beau. According to the memo, she collected two payments totaling $35,000.

The other two recipients were the president’s brother, James, and the president’s younger son, Hunter. There was also a fourth recipient, but their identity has yet to be uncovered by the House Oversight Committee.

What’s known is that one of Hunter’s business associates was Rob Walker, and on March 1st, 2017, Walker received a $3 million wire from State Energy HK, a Chinese energy company.

“After the Robinson Walker, LLC account received $3 million from State Energy HK Limited, Biden family members and their companies began receiving incremental payments over a period of approximately three months,” the memo reads.

Walker wound up transferring $1,065,692 to them, meaning the Bidens ultimately received one-third of State Energy HK’s payment. But why? What did they do to earn the money?

In addition to publishing a memo, Comer also released a statement.

“The Oversight Committee is concerned about the national security implications resulting from President Biden’s family receiving millions of dollars from foreign nationals. We will continue to follow the money trail and facts to determine if President Biden is compromised by his family’s business schemes and if there is a national security threat,” he said.

The big concern is that all the money that the president’s family members were allegedly receiving from China was possibly finding its way to him, which would mean that he’s effectively compromised.

And indeed, that’s why the president himself is at the core of the investigation.

“The media says, ‘Well, this is a Hunter Biden investigation.’ This is an investigation of Joe Biden. And we’re investigating the Biden family and again, after this new batch of information, it expands,” he said during his Tuesday Fox News appearance.

“There are more family members involved in this than just the president’s son. And what they’ve said in the media, ‘Oh, this was for business.’ We can’t identify any business. It appears it went into their personal account,” he added.

This, of course, has made Comer an enemy of the Democrats, all of whom have been circling the wagons to protect the president.

For instance, when Comer sought to subpoena Hunter Biden’s bank records, House Oversight Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin accused him of acting “on behalf” of former President Donald Trump.

“I fear this wildly overbroad subpoena suggests that your interest in this investigation is not in pursuing defined facts or informing public legislation, but conducting a dragnet of political opposition research on behalf of former President Trump,” he reportedly wrote in a public letter.

That being said, according to the memo many questions still remain unanswered, including the following:

  • “why the Chinese energy company waited less than two months after Vice President Biden left public office to send the $3 million wire,”
  • “why the Robinson Walker, LLC account received the China company’s payment instead of the Biden family members’ companies,”
  • “why the payments to the Biden family members were structured in incremental payments to different bank accounts,”
  • “what services the Biden family members provided to the China
company and when those purported services were provided,”
  • and “why Hallie Biden—publicly reported to work as a school counselor—received money from Robinson Walker, LLC.”

According to the memo, the committee is (or rather, the Republicans on the committee are) also concerned with “the national security implications of a President’s or Vice President’s immediate family members receiving millions of dollars from foreign nationals or companies without any oversight.”

All this comes only days after the U.S. Treasury finally started handing over Hunter’s bank records.

“After two months of dragging their feet, the Treasury Department is finally providing us with access to the suspicious activity reports for the Biden family and their associates’ business transactions,” Comer said in a statement Tuesday.

“It should never have taken us threatening to hold a hearing and conduct a transcribed interview with an official under the penalty of perjury for Treasury to finally accommodate part of our request. For over 20 years, Congress had access to these reports but the Biden Administration changed the rules out of the blue to restrict our ability to conduct oversight,” he added.
