Fetterman ‘could leave Walter Reed within next two weeks’ according to report

Updates on Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman’s (D) condition have been scarce and, nearly one month after checking himself into the hospital, he may yet have weeks to go.

Already faced with the uphill battle of recovering from a stroke in May 2022, the senator faced another health scare in February when he spent two days admitted to the hospital after experiencing lightheadedness. Shortly thereafter on Feb. 16, questions arose when the freshman lawmaker checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to be treated for clinical depression.

A couple of days shy of the four-week mark, CNN’s chief congressional correspondent Manu Raju reported on Fetterman’s condition, offering details about the lengthy stay that the senator’s own chief of staff could have easily provided had he not turned his focus toward managing the PR of his boss’s wife, Gisele Fetterman.

“John Fetterman is making progress in his recovery from clinical depression and could leave Walter Reed within next two weeks,” Raju posted to Twitter. “The senator’s physician recently informed him that he will be ‘as good or better than his best days post-stroke.”

“Fetterman’s stay has lasted this long because the doctors have been trying to get his ‘medication balance exactly right,’ per source. For instance,” the CNN correspondent added, “doctors learned his blood pressure med was too high, which may have contributed to dizziness when he went to GW hospital last month.”

At the beginning of the month, eyebrows were raised when the hospitalized senator was credited with cosponsoring a railroad safety bill despite the public knowing next to nothing about his current health status.

Days later, his chief of staff Adam Jentleson offered up several photos that were mocked as “proof of life” showing Fetterman engaging him in discussion on that and other bills. “Productive morning with Senator Fetterman at Walter Reed discussing the rail safety legislation, Farm Bill and other Senate business. John is well on his way to recovery and wanted me to say how grateful he is for all the well wishes. He’s laser focused on PA & will be back soon.”

By contrast, Jentleson has shared numerous posts aimed at bolstering the reputation of the senator’s wife who had been criticized for taking their kids on a trip to Canada while Fetterman was dealing with depression, a decision she herself has tried to play victim over.

“In the worst moments of our lives, women are told it’s their fault,” she had tweeted. “In case you need to hear it today: It’s. Not. Your. Fault. I will keep living and fighting with love. We all need more of it.”

Fetterman’s communications director Joe Calvello, who has frequently covered for the politician’s cognitive troubles post-stroke, has remained similarly inclined to share little on his current hospital stay while offering up prepared statements on Senate business and sharing Mrs. Fetterman’s photo-op exploits as a volunteer firefighter.
