The heat is rising on Dr. Anthony Fauci’s actions regarding COVID and even from the safe space of CNN his composure fell over the “insanity” that he be held to account: “Prosecute me for what?”
The fork-tongued mascot for The Science™, formerly director for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), once again resorted to speaking out of both sides of his mouth Saturday as he joined “CNN Newsroom” for an interview with Jim Acosta. After nearly 10 minutes spent decrying the testimony of former CDC director Dr. Robert Redfield and attempting to redefine what a lab leak really means, Fauci appeared visibly outraged at the suggestion he was guilty of any wrongdoing.
Acosta specifically referenced calls from members of the GOP and billionaire Elon Musk to prosecute the former public official over his involvement in gain-of-function research, suspected to have been what led to the lab leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and the subsequent efforts to suppress that information among other charges.
“Well, I mean, there’s no response to that craziness, Jim,” Fauci fired back with a tick. “I mean, prosecute me for what? What…what are they talking about? I mean, I wish I could figure out what the heck they were talking about.”
“I think they’re just going off the deep end. That’s the answer to your first question. It doesn’t make any sense to say something like that, and it actually is irresponsible,” he continued before positioning himself as the victim.
“Of course, it’s going to have a difficult effect and a deleterious effect on my family. I mean, they don’t like to have me getting death threats all the time. Every time somebody gets up and spouts some nonsense that’s misinformation, disinformation and outright lies, somebody somewhere decides they want to do harm to me and or my family,” Fauci contended.
His idea of “misinformation, disinformation and outright lies” included the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic’s initial hearing Wednesday where former New York Times science editor Nicholas Wade testified to Fauci’s suspected involvement in covering up the origin’s of the pandemic.
As reported, the subcommittee had released emails relaying Fauci’s commission, editing and approval of a study specifically meant to disprove the lab leak that he would later cite as independent proof to support his own claims. On Wednesday Wade added to that by stating, “Fauci was probably not too pleased to hear that the virus might have escaped from research that his agency had funded.”

“The national media swallowed the natural origins story unskeptically, and once committed to it, failed to report contrary evidence,” Wade continued. The former editor’s argument was supported by a report that found CNN specifically had instructed employees to steer clear of looking into the lab leak.
“So that’s the part about it that is really unfortunate,” Fauci went on. “The rest of it is just insanity, the things they’re saying. But it does have a negative effect when people take it seriously and take it out on you and your family, which is the reason why I still have to have protection, which is really unfortunate.”
The former NIAID director was also misleading on his involvement in the latest hearing on the origin of COVID as he accurately said he was not invited to appear. While that is correct, Fox News reported that he was asked to sit for a transcribed interview and had been sent letters by the subcommittee seeking more information on the subject.
No matter his efforts to spin and muddy the truth, the public deserves a full accounting for what the once highest paid government official had done or was involved in that led to inestimable damage to the country and future generations. Musk’s suggestion that Fauci be prosecuted seems to be the least that need occur.
