Desperate leftists say 20-year-old Tucker clip on Bill O’Reilly proves he’s a ‘hypocrite’

Old video footage has emerged of current Fox News host Tucker Carlson trash-talking former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, and for some inexplicable reason, anti-Tucker leftists have been sharing this footage on Twitter ad nauseam as if it proves something.

What does it prove? Who knows. But it evidently proves something …

Watch the old footage below:

The C-SPAN clip from 2003 began with the show’s host reading a quote from Carlson’s just-then-released book, “Politicians, Partisans, and Parasites.”

“Bill O’Reilly’s success is built on the perception that he really is who he claims to be. If he ever gets caught out of character, it’s over,” the quote read.

Confronted by the quote, Carlson then went on to explain exactly what he’d meant.

“I say before that that that Bill O’Reilly is really talented. He’s more talented than I am. You know, he’s got a lot more viewers than I do. He’s a better communicator than I am. But I think there’s kind of a deep phoniness at the center of his shtick. And again, as I say, the shtick is sort of built on this perception that he is the character he plays,” he said.

“He is everyman, this kind of, he’s not right-wing. He’s a populist, this kind of Irish-Catholic populist fighting for you against the powers that be. And that’s great as a shtick. But I’m just saying, the moment that it’s revealed not to be true, it’s over,” he added.

Carlson continued by stressing that the moment O’Reilly got caught doing something bad, the character he created would disintegrate into thin air.

“The moment he gets caught, you know, slapping a flight attendant on the Concorde for not bringing his champagne fast enough or barking at, you know, one of his subordinates to take the brown M&M out of my bowl and get me a bottle of Evian or something like that,” he said.

“The second that makes Page Six, it’s over. Right? Because the whole thing is predicated on the fact that he is who he says he is. And just nobody is that person, especially not someone who makes $1,000,000, you know, many millions a year,” he added.

It turned out he was somewhat right. After O’Reilly was exposed for allegedly sexually harassing his colleagues, his career on mainstream TV immediately ended, though he did eventually revive it on other, alternative networks.

That said, what does this video prove? Leftists say it proves that Carlson is no different than O’Reilly — that he’s just an actor reading a script or playing a role versus someone genuinely dedicated to sharing the news with the public:

This accusation is based on recently unveiled text messages showing that Carlson is secretly no fan of former President Donald Trump.

As previously reported, new court documents released this week as per Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News show him trash-talking Trump in late 2020.

In fact, his frustration with Trump became evident right after the 2020 presidential election, when he allegedly fretted in texts to a network producer that Trump would “destroy” the network if it didn’t cover his legal challenge in a certain way.

“What [Trump]’s good at is destroying things. He’s the undisputed world champion of that. He could easily destroy us if we play it wrong,” one text message reads, according to the lawsuit.

As previously reported, Trump refused to concede defeat following the 2020 election. Instead, he began filing legal challenges contesting the election’s legitimacy.

Carlson’s exasperation with these efforts became abundantly clear months later on Jan. 4th, 2021, when he triumphantly texted to an unknown staffer, “We are very, very close to being able to ignore Trump most nights. I truly can’t wait.”

When the staffer replied theorizing that the post-election craziness would die down by mid-February, Carlson unleashed his inner Kraken.

“I hate him passionately. I blew up at [then-Trump administration official] Peter Navarro today in frustration. I actually like Peter. But I can’t handle much more of this,” he wrote in a text message to the staffer.

Leftists say all this proves something. What, though? It’s not clear. It’s not as if Carlson had been pretending to be some uber-Trump fan or groupie. So what exactly does the fact that he secretly disliked Trump prove?
