‘Absolute madness’: Real estate developer says he’s finally done with Portland after office riddled with bullets

Real estate developer Dustin Michael Miller, who has lived in Portland, Oregon his whole life, is calling it quits after he discovered the window behind where he sits at his desk when he’s working riddled with bullet holes.

“Alright Portland, I’m done with you. I’m over. This has gotta stop, OK?” he said in an Instagram reel on Saturday. Miller showed his office and where he sits, adding, “I work right here a lot during the day. Well, look what happened last night.”

The holes were right over his shoulder where he works at his desk. If he had stayed late to work, it could have been a different story today and not a good one.

“If I was here [the bullets would] be in the back of my head right now,” he noted.

The real estate developer appeared on “Fox & Friends First” Monday to discuss the devolution of the City of Roses over the last five years or so. The bullet holes were the last straw for Miller. He’s seen a lot of homelessness, crime, and craziness rage in Portland which used to be considered the jewel of the west coast. He told co-hosts Todd Piro and Ashley Strohmier that the city has been in severe decline over the last few years and he’s had enough.

“It’s scary living there and coming to work and finding bullet holes in your office. It’s somewhere where you sit all day, and they’re literally right behind my head,” he commented obviously shaken by the development.

“It’s gotta stop. Our city is out of control. It is unrecognizable. I’ve lived here my whole life, and it’s just deteriorated over the last five years,” Miller stated.

He can’t leave right away obviously. And that worries him as he has to brave possible violence while he readies himself to get the hell out of Dodge, so to speak.

It’s not uncommon to see homeless people running around the city with axes and machetes, and it’s just a common thing that nobody does anything. You call the police, and it’s very rare that they show up,” he said.

Miller doesn’t blame the police. He supports them and feels they have their hands tied.

But the raging crime does raise the issues of policing, city policies, and just how badly leftist politicians have led the city astray.

He pointed out on “Fox & Friends First” that violence can happen to anyone, anytime, and any place in Portland. He hammered the city’s leaders for pushing policies that allow criminals to “do whatever they want.”

“I think there’s a bill on the table where we would give every homeless person $1,000 a month. It’s like… you’ve got to be kidding me. This is absolute madness,” Miller commented.

“We just passed a law where all drugs are legal. You don’t get [incarcerated for] possession anymore, so anybody over a certain quantity [of substances], no problem. You go to court… and you either get a ticket or you go to treatment,” he added.

The real estate developer is following Walmart on the way out the door.

The retailer is shuttering two superstores in North and Southeast Portland due to a number of factors including financial reasons. They didn’t mention crime but that is likely one of the “factors.”

“The decision to close these stores was made after a careful review of their overall performance,” a Walmart spokesperson told Fox 12. “We consider many factors, including current and projected financial performance, location, population, customer needs, and the proximity of other nearby stores when making these difficult decisions. After we decide to move forward, our focus is on our associates and their transition, which is the case here.”
