Sen. Tim Scott says Dems are using America’s ‘provocative racial history’ for political power

As the only black Republican in the U.S. Senate, Sen. Tim Scott (S.C.) says Democrats are creating “a wedge in this nation” to gain more “power” and “resources” for their “progressive agenda.”

Scott, who many believe will soon officially enter the 2024 race for the White House, delivered a pair of speeches in Iowa — the starting line of the GOP presidential nominating calendar — on Wednesday during which he accused the left of using America’s “provocative racial history” for their own gain.

Delivering the keynote address at a Polk County fundraising event, Scott said, “Right now, we have politicians who want to say that grievance is our future and not greatness because they believe that by using the provocative racial history of our nation, they can create a wedge in this nation.”

Democrats, he stated, hope racial division “will bring more power and more resources to their progressive agenda.”

“I stand to tell you,” he pledged, “not on my watch.”

At an earlier speech at Drake University in Des Moines, Scott recalled his journey from “cotton to Congress,” according to Fox News.

“I am here because my family chose faith over anger, responsibility over resentment, and patriotism over pity,” he told attendees, adding that progressive Democrats “are attacking every rung of the ladder that helped me climb.”

According to the senator, he is “living proof” of the American Dream.

“[I] was the poor African American kid they claim they’re protecting,” he said of progressives. “So, I want the left to hear me clearly: your soft-on-crime policies are killing us.”

Speaking to Fox News on Tuesday, Scott said the left is trying to alter America’s DNA.

“The Democrats and progressives are doing their very best… to attack the very culture of who we are as Americans,” he stated. “They want to change the DNA of what it means to be an American.”

The Iowa trip marked the start of Scott’s “Faith in America” listening tour and included a morning stop at Des Moines’ St. Anthony Catholic School, Fox News reports.

There, he joined Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, faith leaders, students, and parents.

To the roughly 100 Drake students, Scott said, “We need new leaders who will lift us up, not tear us down,” according to the Washington Times.

Despite the left’s woke ideology, Scott remains hopeful.

“I see 330 million Americans getting back to celebrating our shared blessings again, tolerating our differences again, and having each other’s backs again,” he said.

Asked by Fox News about his timeline for 2024, Scott said he is currently more concerned about “the mission.”

“[F]or me, it’s about distilling the mission of restoring hope and creating opportunities, talking about an optimistic yet conservative message that, if it resonates, it will give me a lot of good feedback,” he explained. “So, for me, it’s really about the mission more than it is the timeline.”

Ahead of his trip, the senator released an inspirational video in which he said America’s “brightest days” are still to come.

“Our journeys are not always easy, but through faith and hard work, the American Dream is alive for all of us,” he tweeted. “We need to keep the faith in our great country. I know her brightest days are ahead.”

It is a message that does indeed appear to be “resonating.”

“Senator Tim Scott in Iowa, giving the most patriot, informative speech ever,” one user wrote on Twitter. “This is what Americans NEED to hear… over and over until all the lights come on.”
