U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene once again triggered Democrats and their allies as well as some members of her own party when the Georgia Republican suggested that it was time for a “national divorce” on Monday.
“We need a national divorce,” she wrote on Twitter.
“We need to separate by red states and blue states and shrink the federal government. Everyone I talk to says this. From the sick and disgusting woke culture issues shoved down our throats to the Democrat’s traitorous America Last policies, we are done,” she wrote to mark the occasion of President’s Day by suggesting that red and blue states should go their own way.
Her tweet drew a strong reaction from one Republican, Governor Spencer Cox of Utah who condemned it as “evil” while recommending a less drastic approach to healing the nation’s ugly political split.
“This rhetoric is destructive and wrong and—honestly—evil,” Cox wrote on Twitter. “We don’t need a divorce, we need marriage counseling. And we need elected leaders that don’t profit by tearing us apart. We can disagree without hate. Healthy conflict was critical to our nation’s founding and survival.”

With tempers still smoldering after Greene’s heckling of Biden during the State of the Union address two weeks ago, furious left-wingers flooded the zone on Twitter to rage against her remarks, including some who practically accused her of firing the opening shot of a second civil war.
That's called secession, and Southern states already tried that and it caused a civil war that killed 600,000 people. https://t.co/MXtdCmRNpf

The dangerous thing about this tweet is not that an individual member of Congress is this radical (there are always at least a few crank members of Congress), it's that she speaks for a very real part of the right. I hear that same sentiment all the time. https://t.co/vdoQWTK8uE

You are a danger to the country and you only want to divide us. You are literally calling for secession, which is pretty on brand for traitors like you. https://t.co/aLiStXZsTH

The last time some states decided to “separate” from the Union, the Civil War made clear for all time that we are indivisible. We’re all in this together.
Advocating for the dissolution of the United States is treasonous and un-American. https://t.co/SEb19d0SDK

The same as it ever was for these traitors. The reason they hate America is because they hate the idea of equality. https://t.co/hst6iWLn1D

Our leader just took a train to Kiev to stand up for freedom, and their leader just called for a national divorce. Pick your fighter.
— Brian Schatz (@brianschatz) February 20, 2023
Let’s be clear. If you call for a “national divorce” you are calling for secession. It’s dangerous, disloyal, and the GOP should censure those who call for it.
— George Takei (@GeorgeTakei) February 20, 2023
Just so we are clear, calling for a "national divorce" is the same as calling for another civil war…. which is treason.
— Sarah Ironside 💙🌊 (@SarahIronside6) February 20, 2023
Let's be clear: calling for a "national divorce" as a sitting member of Congress is sedition.
Marjorie Taylor Greene should be removed from office under the 14th Amendment.

Others weren’t so quick to condemn the feisty Georgia congresswoman.
People mad (or happy) about @RepMTG talking about national divorce are wasting energy.
It’s coming anyway. Anyone can see it. We’re fracturing. And we should. It won’t be some official meeting. But we’re divorcing. https://t.co/bZGKYo0eSe

The only reason there hasn't been a national divorce already is because Red State Republicans elected officials (unlike their constituents) agree with the abusive husband side of the relationship.

A national divorce isn’t probable because leftism can’t “live and let live,” in the same way the metastatic cancer doesn’t infect one part of the body without conquering another. It’s imperialistic & totalitarian by nature. It will never allow a diplomatic divorce – ever

Greene’s suggestion came an hour after another tweet that also rankled critics, one that unloaded on President Joe Biden who has yet to visit the site of the unfolding environmental catastrophe in East Palestine, Ohio but traveled to Ukraine for a public relations stop where he gave a man hug to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, an image that the media swooned over.
“This is incredibly insulting,” she said. “Today on our President’s Day, Joe Biden, the President of the United States chose Ukraine over America, while forcing the American people to pay for Ukraine’s government and war. I can not express how much Americans hate Joe Biden.”

In another tweet on the topic of Biden’s Ukraine photo op, she called for his impeachment as an alternative to divorce.
Impeach Biden or give us a national divorce.
We don’t pay taxes to fund foreign country’s wars who aren’t even NATO ally’s.
We aren’t sending our sons & daughters to dies for foreign borders & foreign “democracy.”
America is BROKE.
Criminals & Cartels reign.
And you’re a fool. https://t.co/hXeJrikEN6— Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene🇺🇸 (@RepMTG) February 20, 2023
It should be noted that Biden has done nothing but to further exacerbate the political split with his constant race-baiting and dehumanizing of tens of millions of Americans who voted for the “wrong” guy despite his campaign trail pledge that he would be a unifier as the nation’s leader.
While many may believe that the nation has reached the point of irreconcilable differences with the uncompromising political left and the ruthless manner in which the Democratic party enforces its agenda, it is something that is taboo to acknowledge, especially when it comes from a lawmaker who has been an outspoken defender of traditional American values.
Greene sought to set the record straight that she wasn’t calling for civil war.
People are absolutely fed up and disgusted with left wing insanity and disaster America Last policies.
National divorce is not civil war, but Biden and the neocons are leading us into WW3, while forcing corporate ESG and gender confusion on our kids.
Enough! https://t.co/7YSzwFuPeo
— Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene🇺🇸 (@RepMTG) February 20, 2023
There are few GOP lawmakers who are able to push the buttons of Democrats like Greene who, like former President Trump, has proven to be resilient despite the relentless attacks on her by leftists who despise her more for being a strong, white, heterosexual Christian conservative woman than for her often fiery rhetoric.
